Diabetes Educator educates patients on the necessary lifestyle changes involved in a diabetes diagnosis, including nutrition, medication, physical activity and glucose testing. Collects patient data to monitor health status and proactively manage the patient's condition. Being a Diabetes Educator facilitates skill development and behavior modification so that the patient is able to successfully manage the disease. Typically requires a bachelor's degree in nursing or equivalent. Additionally, Diabetes Educator typically required to be a Certified Care and Education Specialist (CDCES). Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. The Diabetes Educator occasionally directed in several aspects of the work. Unit Educator Responsibilities...
Working closely with the Director of Education and the Nurse Manager, the Unit Educator identifies learning needs, implements education programs and evaluates outcomes to ensure competency. He/she serves as a mentor/consultant to staff in the utilization of the nursing process. The Unit Educator is a role model to staff in practice/process improvements.
To qualify you must...
BSN degree preferred.
Current NH license as a professional registered nurse required.
Three to five to years of experience in nursing and currently working full time at NRHN .
Trained and recertified every two years in CPR. CPR instructor obtained within one year of employment.
