Diesel Mechanic performs inspection, maintenance, repairs, and overhauls of diesel engines. Troubleshoots and diagnoses problems. Being a Diesel Mechanic utilizes computer electronics systems to interpret failure modes. Replaces and/or refurbishes parts. Additionally, Diesel Mechanic maintains maintenance logs according to requirements. Ensures services provided follow all quality standards and safety procedures. May perform DOT annual inspections on vehicles. Typically requires a high school diploma. Typically requires Commercial Driver License (CDL) - Class A. Typically requires a Certificate in Automotive & Diesel Technology. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Diesel Mechanic works independently within established procedures associated with the specific job function. Has gained proficiency in multiple competencies relevant to the job. Job duties include performing pm’s, federal inspections, troubleshooting and general repairs to tractor, trailers and straight trucks. Should have knowledge of electrical and air brake systems on trucks and trailers and have computer skills to troubleshoot problems with diagnostic software. State inspection certification is a plus in states where inspections are required by law. Class C driver’s license needed, CDL preferred. Must have clean driving record, and your own basic hand tools. Various training is provided. Compensation is dependent on years of experience, certifications and
