Diesel Mechanic performs inspection, maintenance, repairs, and overhauls of diesel engines. Troubleshoots and diagnoses problems. Being a Diesel Mechanic utilizes computer electronics systems to interpret failure modes. Replaces and/or refurbishes parts. Additionally, Diesel Mechanic maintains maintenance logs according to requirements. Ensures services provided follow all quality standards and safety procedures. May perform DOT annual inspections on vehicles. Typically requires a high school diploma. Typically requires Commercial Driver License (CDL) - Class A. Typically requires a Certificate in Automotive & Diesel Technology. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Diesel Mechanic works independently within established procedures associated with the specific job function. Has gained proficiency in multiple competencies relevant to the job. Responsibilities include:
· Inspects, analyze, troubleshoot, diagnose, and perform minor and/or complex repairs for all equipment.
· Disassemble, repair, and re-reassemble heavy truck and trailer components, including but not limited to diesel engines, transmission, axles and any other components or systems.
· Perform tire maintenance.
· Perform outside repairs to include roadside breakdowns as directed by supervisor.
· May be required to test drive equipment.
· Maintain work area neat appearance and observe safety practices.
· Be able to multi-task and switch jobs as requested by supervisor.
Skills Required:
· Good communication skills.
· Ability to read and understand repair manuals.
· Ability to complete repair orders.
· Electronic engine and software experience a plus.
· Valid driver’s license.
· Knowledge of tools and equipment required to conduct all repairs.
