Diesel Mechanic performs inspection, maintenance, repairs, and overhauls of diesel engines. Troubleshoots and diagnoses problems. Being a Diesel Mechanic utilizes computer electronics systems to interpret failure modes. Replaces and/or refurbishes parts. Additionally, Diesel Mechanic maintains maintenance logs according to requirements. Ensures services provided follow all quality standards and safety procedures. May perform DOT annual inspections on vehicles. Typically requires a high school diploma. Typically requires Commercial Driver License (CDL) - Class A. Typically requires a Certificate in Automotive & Diesel Technology. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Diesel Mechanic works independently within established procedures associated with the specific job function. Has gained proficiency in multiple competencies relevant to the job. Tractor & Trailer Mechanics perform preventative & corrective diagnostics and repairs in routine and emergency situations.
Mechanics must be organized, dependable, and proficient to maintain assigned equipment. Mechanics should be physically and mentally fit and have a solid knowledge of technical tools.
Mechanics possess some customer service skills as well as the ability to diagnose and resolve mechanical & technical problems quickly and effectively.
Mechanics assist fleet maintenance team with new technology, equipment updates, and ongoing support. Mechanics assist to identify, develop and implement process improvements.
Willing to train the correct candidate.
