Diesel Mechanic jobs in Lake Charles, LA
Diesel Mechanic performs inspection, maintenance, repairs, and overhauls of diesel engines. Troubleshoots and diagnoses problems. Being a Diesel Mechanic utilizes computer electronics systems to interpret failure modes. Replaces and/or refurbishes parts. Additionally, Diesel Mechanic maintains maintenance logs according to requirements. Ensures services provided follow all quality standards and safety procedures. May perform DOT annual inspections on vehicles. Typically requires a high school diploma. Typically requires Commercial Driver License (CDL) - Class A. Typically requires a Certificate in Automotive & Diesel Technology. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Diesel Mechanic works independently within established procedures associated with the specific job function. Has gained proficiency in multiple competencies relevant to the job. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Diagnose mechanical problems
- Perform typical repairs on steering systems, hydraulic systems, brake systems, transmissions, electrical systems and engines.
- Read and interpret work orders, communicates with drivers for clarification of problems and discuss preventative techniques with them to minimize future repairs.
- Perform preventative maintenance on a scheduled basis.
- Perform vehicle inspections to ensure DOT requirements are met and take corrective measures when required.
SKILLS/REQUIREMENTS:
- Mechanical or trade school certificate
- Industry knowledge and experience performing maintenance and diagnostics on diesel equipment
- Knowledgeable of air/brake systems
- Able to work flexible schedules including shift work, weekends, and on-call rotations for roadside assistance
