Dietitian reviews physicians diagnosis and designs and implements therapeutic nutritional care plans for patients utilizing general dietetic standards and regulations. Monitors and documents patient progress and consults with physicians as needed. Being a Dietitian educates and provides guidance to staff, patients, and families regarding diet and food plans. Administers and advises food service operations to ensure menus comply with prescribed nutritional plans. Additionally, Dietitian requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a supervisor/manager. Requires Registered Dietitian (RD) or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN). The Dietitian gains exposure to some of the complex tasks within the job function. Occasionally directed in several aspects of the work. - Provides therapeutic nutrition planning and related educational programs for individual patients and groups.
- Provide individual self-management goal counseling and care planning with clinical team.
- Teach chronic disease group classes, covering all topics for self-management of nutritional component of chronic disease self-management.
- Collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to problem solve, share information, and update re: patient’s progress.
- Assist with the selection of team and organizational program education materials.
- Assist in training staff in established nutritional care clinical guidelines.
- Act as a resource for nursing, medical staff and community for nutrition management, evidenced based care, and educational needs
Qualifications
Bachelors degree of science in dietetics, food and nutrition or a related field. Certification through American Dietetic Association required and current certification from the American Association of Diabetes Educators as a Certified Diabetic Educator (CDE). Three to five years’ experience.Demonstrates excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as teaching skills.
