Dietitian reviews physicians diagnosis and designs and implements therapeutic nutritional care plans for patients utilizing general dietetic standards and regulations. Monitors and documents patient progress and consults with physicians as needed. Being a Dietitian educates and provides guidance to staff, patients, and families regarding diet and food plans. Administers and advises food service operations to ensure menus comply with prescribed nutritional plans. Additionally, Dietitian requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a supervisor/manager. Requires Registered Dietitian (RD) or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN). The Dietitian gains exposure to some of the complex tasks within the job function. Occasionally directed in several aspects of the work. Applicants must either be a Registered Dietitian or possess a bachelor’s degree and have proof of eligibility to take the RD exam. Adequate proof is a ‘Current Verification Statement’ from the Commission on Dietetics Registration.
The WIC Registered Dietitian provides nutrition counseling and education to WIC clients among other duties. This position may be exposed to a noisy and crowded work environment and to hostile or aggressive clients. Most positions involve lifting children and objects weighing 40 pounds. This position requires frequent travel within a local service area. Candidates must have good knowledge of nutrition education principles and methods. They must also value and understand the importance of good customer service and model professional and ethical behavior.
