Monitors and documents patient progress and consults with physicians as needed. Being a Dietitian educates and provides guidance to staff, patients, and families regarding diet and food plans. Administers and advises food service operations to ensure menus comply with prescribed nutritional plans. Additionally, Dietitian requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a supervisor/manager. Requires Registered Dietitian (RD) or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN). The Dietitian gains exposure to some of the complex tasks within the job function. Occasionally directed in several aspects of the work. The Clinical Dietitian is responsible for providing nutritional care and education for hospitalized patients of all ages, including infants, toddlers, early and middle childhood, adolescent, middle adulthood, and geriatrics, as well as for out-patients referred by Western Medical Staff physicians. The Dietitian is responsible for maintaining open communication with nurses, physicians, and other health care team members regarding the nutritional concerns of patients. The Dietitian is responsible for participating with the Director of Nutrition in the development of nutrition-related policies and procedures pertinent to clinical areas, and in providing quality patient care.
