Position Summary:
Summary:
The Registered Dietitian plans, delivers and directs Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) to outpatient surgical and non-surgical weight loss patients in accordance with allied health professional’s diagnoses, while complying with the requirements of regulatory agencies. The dietitian functions as a member of the multidisciplinary healthcare team to develop, coordinate, implement and evaluate nutritional care plans for the metabolic and bariatric patient.
Job Responsibilities:
Provides nutrition guidance and counseling to metabolic and bariatric surgery patients through development, implementation, and monitoring of dietary recommendations pertaining to weight loss surgery.
Able to evaluate a medical record to obtain appropriate information to provide accurate and comprehensive nutrition assessment.
Develops rapport with patient and family and uses effective education and counseling techniques to help patient reach established goals.
Evaluate patient progress towards reaching established goals and ability to identify and adjust interventions to help patient meet established goals.
Provide nutrition information seminars to patients
Develops nutrition education materials as needed
Coordinates with the multidisciplinary team to establish patient readiness for surgery and best support patient through weight loss process
Collaborates with others in committees, work groups or projects designed to improve patient services as needed
Maintains continuing education, knowledge and skills as appropriate in the medical weight loss field.
Serves as a preceptor for dietetic interns and/or students as needed
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Nutrition/Dietetics or related field.
Hold active registration with the Commission on Dietetic Registration as a Registered Dietitian
Must hold current licensure from the State of Connecticut as a Certified-Dietitian/Nutritionist.
Bariatric experience
Preferred Skills:
3 years working as a Registered Dietitian
Counseling bariatric patients in the pre and post-op surgical process in the outpatient setting.
Excellent interpersonal communication skills
Familiar with computer based charting system, EPIC or Exemplo.
