Digital Collection Librarian maintains a library's digital collection of books, serials, documents, audiovisuals, or other materials, and assists groups and individuals in locating, obtaining and using materials. Trains others in the creation or preservation of digital resources and the use of the library's digital system(s). Being a Digital Collection Librarian is responsible for the library's open source projects and procures licenses for digital content. Interacts with IT staff in selecting/developing, implementing and maintaining the library's technical infrastructure. Additionally, Digital Collection Librarian requires a master's degree in library science from an ALA-accredited school in a related field. Typically reports to a director. The Digital Collection Librarian manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Digital Collection Librarian typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required.     Normal Public Library seeks an innovative, collaborative librarian to join the Tech Services staff, with a primary focus on development and maintenance of the library’s juvenile circulating and digital collections. The successful candidate will join a team dedicated to providing excellent services, collections, and programs to all in our community.
    • Develop and maintain relevant, high-interest, and diverse collections for children in accordance with the library’s collection development policy, best practices in collection management, and publishing trends
    • Employ vendor services, professional tools, and purchase suggestions to evaluate, select, and purchase sufficient materials in various physical and digital formats across age groups in a timely fashion 
    • Work with colleagues to analyze existing collections, community trends, and ILS data to identify the needs and interests of diverse communities, anticipate public demand, and improve collection performance
    • Set annual deselection goals and coordinate deselection of materials in areas of responsibility
    • Participate in team assessment of library-wide resources and services to recommend necessary improvements 
    • Supervise staff as assigned in the absence of a supervisor and provide onboarding training in collection development processes and practices
    • Create positive experiences for library patrons by effectively and efficiently performing job tasks
    • Present a positive image of the library in attitude, communications, and appearance while performing duties in both the public and staff areas
    • Demonstrate professional, positive, cooperative, team-oriented working relationships
    • Provide direct service at service desks
    • Assist customers via readers’ advisory, reference, and technology
    • Perform other work duties as assigned, relative to the operational needs of the library
     
    • MLS from an ALA-accredited graduate program
    • Experience in collection management for youth
    • Strong commitment to public service
    • Demonstrated understanding and appreciation of diversity and the importance of inclusion as shown by a commitment to apply and incorporate the differences, complexities, and opportunities that diversity brings to an organization
    • Ability to communicate pleasantly and professionally both orally and in writing with diverse customers and staff of all ages
    • Excellent skills in the usage of traditional and emerging technologies
    • Ability to prioritize tasks to meet deadlines
    • Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills
    • Proven experience providing readers’ advisory and customer service in a library setting
    • Flexibility to adapt to changing situations and to varied work schedules

    Required schedule includes days, evenings, and weekends.
