  • SUMMARY: Under the direction of a management representative of higher grade. This position supervises all aspects of the assigned location. This is a "working" supervisory position.

    To perform the job successfullv. an individual should demonstrate the following competencies:

    Customer Service - Manages difficult or emotional customer situations; Responds promptly to customer needs; Solicits customer feedback to improve service; Responds to requests for service and assistance; Meets commitments.

    Interpersonal Skills - Focuses on solving conflict. Must have the ability to work with others and to take and give direction.

    Oral Communication - Speaks clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations. Listens and gets clarification.

    Written Communication - Writes clearly and informatively. Able to read and interpret written information.

    Safety and Security - Observes safety and security procedures; Determines appropriate action beyond guidelines; Reports potentially unsafe conditions; Uses equipment and materials properly.

    Attendance/Punctuality - Is consistently at work and on time; Arrives at meetings and appointments on time.

    Problem Solving - Identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner; Develops alternative solutions. Works well in group problem solving situations.

    Data entry – Must ensure procedures are followed for signing in at pantry. UConn ID must be shown and proper iPad sign in complete. Able to keep accurate records of patron counts for necessary monthly Foodshare reports.

    Independent Work – Must be able to work independently without supervision.


    Job Duties:

    • Supervises the daily operation of assigned location.
    • Supervises set-up, production, customer service and product presentation to ensure quality standards are met
    • Ensures that all necessary product is on hand
    • Ensures that all equipment is in good repair and is functional and properly calibrated. Records daily temp records for refrigerators and freezers as well as items held within.
    • Enforces staff uniform policy and ensures all staff maintains a crisp, clean and professional appearance.
    • Proficient at all positions within the assigned location.
    • Trains student staff and volunteers in positional duties as needed.
    • Helps to schedule staff to adequately cover shifts and updates as necessary when people fail to report to work as assigned. Is proactive when shift coverage is needed due to call outs.
    • Accurately forecast product needs, taking in to account the cyclical nature of the business and without carrying excess inventory.
    • Complete product ordering as assigned following all guidelines.
    • Maintains and completes all checklists as needed and ensures their use on a daily basis.
    • Monitors product levels during assigned shift to ensure proper distribution.
    • Ensures product is rotated properly to minimize waste and serve a quality product.
    • Ensures proper supervision throughout the day. Preforms proper opening, clean up, and closing procedures of assigned location.
    • Ensures proper safety and sanitation procedures are followed.
    • Understands and practices progressive discipline techniques when necessary.
    • Ensures all policies and standards are followed.
    • Must complete University Driving Training for University vehicles.
    • Make deliveries and/or product pick-ups as assigned.
    • Coordinate the pickup of donated items and adjust schedule as needed w/ approval from supervisor.
    • Provides input for student workers performance evaluations.
    • Ability to read and interpret documents such as invoices, safety rules, operating and maintenance

    instructions, and procedure manuals.

    • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
    • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out written or oral instructions.
    • Ability to troubleshoot and solve problems involving a few variables in standardized situations.
    • Works special events when necessary.
    • Works within all University and departmental guidelines.
    • Required to stock delivery items in accordance with Food Safety Guidelines (FIFO).
    • Maintain records of receipts and deliveries.
    • Verifies quantity and quality of incoming supplies against invoices, bills of lading and orders.
    • Follows all guidelines for food distribution provided by Foodshare and/or Environmental Health & Safety.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Job Qualifications:

    • Education and/or Experience:

    Demonstrated experience in an institutional setting in lieu of education.


    • Computer Skills:

    Knowledge of Microsoft Word, and Microsoft Excel and Outlook.


    • Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

    Serv- Safe Certified or Serv- Safe eligible.


    • Ability to work within all University and Departmental guidelines.

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; talk, hear and taste or smell. The employee is frequently required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 60 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

    • Work Environment: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving parts, stoves, ovens, grills, large kettles, freezers and. refrigeration equipment. Employee is frequently exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals such as bleach, dishwasher agents and other cleaning materials. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

    Preferred:

    • Experience in Food Pantry sourcing or volunteering.

    Required:

    • Valid drivers license and good driving record.

    WORK WEEK: Requires flexibility with some nights and weekends required, hourly exempt employee.

    Hours: Mon 9am-4:30, Tue 9am-6pm, Wed 8am-4:30pm, Thu 8am-4:30pm, Fri 8am-4:30pm
