Zund Operator Job Description

The Zund Operator is an integral part of the Dock and Conversion Department and is responsible for setting up, operating, and producing finish-cut products to match job specs within quality standards and deadlines. As an integral part of the workflow, efficient Zund operation directly impacts the ability of other departments to proceed without bottlenecks or downtime. Qualified candidates will support our efforts to maximize the capacity of the Zund digital cutter to keep more work in-house. The Zund Operator is responsible for converting materials for production, as well as supporting the Dock & Conversion team when available. 

The Zund Operator is a regular, full-time hourly position. Work hours are 10am to 6pm Sunday and 12pm to 8pm Monday - Thursday. Overtime, including weekends, may be required periodically depending on business volume and demands. The Zund Operator reports to the Dock and Conversion Supervisor.

Responsibilities:

• Review workflow and plan cut jobs in order to maximize operating efficiencies across departments.
• Cut print jobs and other materials per order specifications, creating cut files as needed.
• Route out sign jobs on a variety of substrates.
• Verify quality meets expectations as a job is running in order to minimize waste.
• Take initiative to troubleshoot issues with hardware, software, and cutting tools.
• Match output to order tickets with extreme accuracy.
• Communicate with the supervisor and other necessary stakeholders in a timely and effective manner.
• Perform general cleaning & maintenance on equipment; and maintain a safe & clean work environment.
• Support Dock & Conversion team during downtime by performing other tasks as assigned, including but not limited to running paper chopper, band saw, orbital sander, etc.

Education, Qualifications, and Requirements: 

• HS Diploma or equivalent
• At least two year’s experience operating a Zund or similar cutting machine
• Extensive knowledge of software, hardware, file setup, tools, and accessories for Zund digital cutter or similar
• Must have a keen eye for minor imperfections and excellent attention to detail
• Demonstrates problem-solving and decision-making skills that benefit business operations
• Able to multitask and highly self-motivated
• Digital and/or wide format printing experience a plus
• Working knowledge of design software, such as Adobe Creative Suite, preferred
• Must be able to work overtime and weekends as dictated by demand
• Must be able to lift 50 pounds and stand for the entirety of an 8-hour shift
