    Position Description

    A great opportunity for a skilled and creative designer with strong motion graphics and design capabilities to join the University Marketing and Communications team and through compelling design work help us paint a picture of Santa Clara University to share with the world. Capture the beauty of our campus, our diverse Bronco community, the stories of our students and professors, and the essence of Santa Clara's highly-ranked education model. Help us define visual style and consistency to a variety of audiences including students, prospective students, parents, alumni, and more. This is an exciting time to join as we embark on a new brand storytelling initiative for the University and are looking for a designer who can help us define that new vision. The Associate Director, Motion Graphics and Design will be an important part of the design team, working for the Art Director, and collaborating with print and web designers, storytelling, social media, and others on the University Marketing and Communications Team. A strong working partnership with the Associate Director of Video Production will also be important as they collaborate on a wide variety of video projects.

    The Associate Director, Motion Graphics and Design is someone who brings deep creative skills and vision and can lead general marketing projects as well as execute great design. They will be a part of the team responsible for conceptualizing, consulting on, and implementing the university's visual identity program, special web, digital, new media, print projects, and other visual initiatives on behalf of campus clients and the university as a whole.

    The Associate Director, Motion Graphics and Design will create strategic and professionally accomplished visual and motion designs that meet the campus clients' marketing objectives. They will consistently carry forward the university's brand identity and image across applications and all media.The position with its emphasis on motion graphics reflects our desire to expand and improve our digital storytelling capabilities.

    Job Responsibilities

    Collaborate with campus clients to support their design goals. Build relationships with unit representatives to position University Marketing and Communications as a leader of and resource for their design needs.

    Design and develop a variety of promotional materials, including web graphics (website, blog, social media, email, and other channels), digital material, UI design, motion graphics, animations, banners, ads, and others, to help promote the university's core attributes to its audiences.

    Work within the Website CMS to design on-page content.

    Responsible for creating the motion design language and principles of the University.

    Develop meaningful and delightful animations while ensuring the brand direction and user's needs are always centered in the experience.

    Provide animation concepts and other design elements to clients and team members.

    Work closely with the web team to design and implement updates to the website.

    Recommends initiatives and implements changes to improve quality and services.

    Maximizes productivity through use of appropriate digital tools, planned training, and performance initiatives.

    Researches and develops resources that create timely and efficient workflow.

    Prepares and submits reports as requested and required.

    Assist units in research and data collection regarding target audiences in order to establish better strategies.

    Ensure consistency, integrity, and proper treatment of the university brand and its brand guidelines.

    Oversee budgeting and management of production and vendor costs in collaboration with the marketing and strategy team, as well as campus clients.

    Design and manage several design projects simultaneously, and meet regularly with team members to track project goals and deliverables and to communicate plans and requirements to internal clients.

    Serve as backup designer for projects assigned to other designers.

    Produce weekly reports of projects' status.

    Work within and expand the SCU Template System and Style Guidelines in accordance with the university brand guidelines and the institution's marketing strategy.

    Stay current on industry standards and innovations.

    Assign work to the design team, students, and vendors.

    Provide direction and review of projects, and coordinate workflow to keep projects running smoothly and timely.

    Other duties as assigned.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    Program Knowledge

    In-depth knowledge of design and web software programs like Adobe Creative Suite, especially Adobe After Effects, Figma, and functional knowledge of Microsoft Office programs and Google Suite.

    Knowledge of motion design language, and how to apply that across different mediums.

    Proven advanced knowledge of web design, CMS, and HTML/CSS is required. Ability to create assets for our web team that are mobile-, tablet-, and desktop-friendly to provide a user experience that fits all formats.

    Experience creating high-fidelity mock-ups and UI/UX design direction across mobile, tablet, and web a plus.

    Familiarity with the Asana project management tool is a plus.

    Skills

    Experience creating sketches, user flows, wireframes, and final visual design deliverables.

    Extensive experience creating vivid visual effects, animating graphics, and applying motion graphics to a variety of different platforms

    Possess good organizational skills and the ability to manage projects in a timely manner.

    Sound interpersonal communication skills: both oral and written; in one-on-one situations and small groups; with faculty, staff, students, alumni, and outside vendors.

    A good team player, willing to work with colleagues on demanding jobs and tight deadlines.

    A dynamic, creative individual with proven design experience, showing a passion and appreciation for great visual communication.

    Work experience in a client service environment.

    Illustration skills are a plus.

    Knowledge of printing methods is a plus.

    Abilities

    Ability to work well in a team setting as well as independently, with a proactive attitude in a collaborative work environment.

    Ability to work on multiple projects concurrently.

    Ability to maintain positive client relationships.

    Proven ability to manage external creative resources and student interns.

    Budgeting and contracting experience preferable.

    Ability to create a unified design look and feel across different mediums.

    Education and/or Experience

    Minimum of a bachelor's degree is required (emphasis in design or related field).

    Minimum of six years of progressive professional experience in interactive digital design, publications, and project management in an in-house or agency creative position including graphic design experience.

    Qualifications

    This position requires the ability to effectively establish and maintain cooperative working relationships within a diverse multicultural environment.
