Director of International Education leads and directs all aspects of the institution's international programs. Oversees programs, activities, faculty affairs, and academic support services. Being a Director of International Education develops and implements strategies to attract and retain students and faculty. Oversees the operations of the study abroad and foreign exchange programs, the international admissions process, and English language programs. Additionally, Director of International Education ensures that the curriculum remains current and is in compliance with accreditation standards. Monitors the documentation and visa application processes. Oversees the departmental budget and management of expenditures throughout the year. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to top management. The Director of International Education typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. Capable of resolving escalated issues arising from operations and requiring coordination with other departments.       Education, Experience and Requirements:
      • MA Degree in Educational Administration
      • BA or MA in Special Education preferred
      • Valid Washington State Teaching certificate or Educational Staff Associate certificate
      • Valid Washington State Administrative credential preferred
      • Valid Washington State driver’s license or evidence of mobility
      • A minimum of five years of successful experience in Special Education as a teacher or specialist
      • Successful administrative experience preferred
      • Experience working with students and families with special needs
      • Experience and/or training with cultural, socio-economical diversity preferred
      • Experience and/or training with trauma-informed practices, MTSS and PBIS preferred
      • Successful Washington State Patrol and Federal Bureau of Investigation Fingerprint Clearance
      • I-9 Employment Eligibility in compliance with the Immigrations Reform and Control Act

      Salary Range: $170,288 to $181,103, dependent on experience
      Benefits: Medical, life and other insurances are available from State approved plans
      Work Year: July 1 to June 30 — 12 month work year, including 14 holidays and 26 vacation days

      Performance Responsibilities/Essential Functions:
      • Be the public face of the special education department—develop a positive, supportive and collabo-rative working relationship with, and among, students, staff, parents and the communities
      • Communicate effectively with students, staff, parents and communities
      • Promote awareness and understanding of and responsiveness to the needs of a diverse student population
      • Assist with the monitoring of compliance with state and federal rules and regulations for all special education, categorical and other entitlement areas
      • Assist the Executive Director in developing processes and providing opportunities for involvement of the school community in decision making
      • Collaborate with others in the special education team to set departmental vision and mission
      • Assist staff with positive behavior support systems and interventions
      • Assist site-based administrators and staff with disciplinary issues and processes involving students with
      • disabilities
      • Provide instructional support to teachers in meeting the needs of diverse learners
      • Collaborate with team members to identify, select and train staff in the use of supplemental special education curricula and assessments
      • Participate in interdepartmental collaboration efforts
      • Develop and deliver training regarding students with disabilities for general education, special education and administrative staff
      • Collaboratively lead efforts to establish and support research-based Multi-tiered Systems and Supports (MTSS) in schools
      • Participate in training and support of trauma-informed perspectives and interventions for students with disabilities
      • Assist school-based teams in developing individualized responses to address the unique needs of students in challenging student situations
      • Liaise with parents and school teams to help resolve conflicts
      • Remain calm and professional and take a strong leadership stance in a crisis
      • Bring a systems approach to planning and implementing change for special education services
      • Participate in interdepartmental collaboration efforts to foster, develop, and support research-based inclusion programs to maximize successful student participation in general education settings
      • Collaborate to develop processes for determining the need and usage of paraeducator support
      • Facilitate the planning and development, evaluation and continuous improvement in categorical programs
      • Assist with the preparation of the district’s Safety Net application
      • Provide technical support to Special Education, ELL, and other categorical programs
      • Supervision and evaluation of Special Services certificated and classified staff
      • Coordinate District-wide 504 implementation
      • Perform other tasks as directed by the Executive Director of Special Programs & Services
      • Performs other duties as assigned
