Director of International Education leads and directs all aspects of the institution's international programs. Oversees programs, activities, faculty affairs, and academic support services. Being a Director of International Education develops and implements strategies to attract and retain students and faculty. Oversees the operations of the study abroad and foreign exchange programs, the international admissions process, and English language programs. Additionally, Director of International Education ensures that the curriculum remains current and is in compliance with accreditation standards. Monitors the documentation and visa application processes. Oversees the departmental budget and management of expenditures throughout the year. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to top management. The Director of International Education typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. Capable of resolving escalated issues arising from operations and requiring coordination with other departments. Reporting to the Provost, the Dean of International Education is responsible for fostering an organizational culture and climate that fully supports global education and welcomes diversity. This will be achieved through coordination of the University’s International Education efforts including the development of international program offerings; overseeing study abroad and exchange programs; leading international recruitment efforts; supporting international students who choose to study at the Millikin University through the development, implementation, and assessment of onboarding, retention, success, and completion efforts. The Dean provides strategic leadership for International Education, including formulating and implementing a vision for International Education and campus internationalization.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to, the following:
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES Directly supervises their team. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the university’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training staff members, planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining staff members; and addressing complaints and resolving issues.
QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must have the ability to succeed in a result driven professional organization. Ability to manage results through a staff of direct and indirect employees. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to drive a team in a focused direction. Technical: The successful candidate will demonstrate an in-depth knowledge of the marketplace, an understanding of current admission and marketing trends, and the ability and energy to lead a team to meet international education goals. Expertise in managing a recruitment effort that shapes a student body from a wide variety of educational backgrounds (traditional, home-schooled, private schools, supported-learning, non-traditional, community college transfers, etc.) is key. A working knowledge of international recruitment strategy is important to support and bolster Millikin’s University current international study population.
