Essential Functions This job description should not be interpreted as all inclusive.  It is intended to identify the essential functions and requirements of this position.  The incumbent may be requested to perform job-related responsibilitiesand tasks other than those stated in this job description.   Director (95%) Prepares and delivers sermons on Sundays (on occasion to congregation) and to youth every Wednesday Plans, teaches, coordinates, directs, and promotes all Corps Sunday School and Vacation Bible School classes; prepares and maintains the Youth Roll Book on a regular basis for annual reviews; ensures all Sunday School classes are covered by the appropriate teaching staff; recruits substitutes teachers as needed; orders and distributes Sunday School supplies to teachers ensuring all teachers have materials needed. Builds and nurtures positive relationships with the youth; serves as a mentor and role model by leading youth by example; shares meals and fellowship time with the youth; provides individual spiritual guidance when needed; remains available and interruptible to youth’s needs and may be required to respond to emergency situations outside of normal hours of work in order to meet the needs of the youth both inside and outside of the Corps environment. Plans, leads, develops, and monitors curriculum content of Sunday School classes, giving specific as well as general guidance to other Sunday School teachers. Leads, plans and coordinates transportation arrangements for all Corps programs and provides transportation as needed on emergency basis. Leads, plans and coordinates arrangements for youth to attend Divisional events. Leads, plans, and organizes quarterly teachers meetings; coordinates arrangements for annual teacher training seminars. Leads, plans and conducts monthly social activities for teens and young adults age groups. Leads, plans, coordinates, and implements fund-raising functions for various groups. Plans and organizes music for both junior choir and youth chorus; plans, rehearses and promotes children's musicals. Maintains awareness of new materials in the area of Christian Education; researches and purchases books or magazines or other materials that might be helpful to the development of the Christian Education Curriculum Library. Works with local officers, Sunday School teachers, and other program leaders to ensure that special lesson plans are made for each scheduled program, that the plans are followed, and that appropriate statistics are kept and recorded. Serves as a constant source of fresh ideas for all program leaders in all matters of classroom procedures including units of study, schedules, educational materials, needed resources, and craft ideas. Ensures the safety and protection of all children participating in youth programs; contacts the appropriate personnel, parents, or emergency services as needed; reports all accidents to the supervisor; contacts parents with any discipline problems occur with children participating in programs. Consolidates craft and art supply requests from local officers and program leaders; prepares and submits purchase requests for the same. Plans and coordinates arrangements for Divisional and Territorial Camps including scheduling of youth physicals; completes all paperwork for camps and organizes transportation. Prepares and maintains statistical records on all Corps program activities and attendance; compiles and prepares monthly statistical reports; prepares monthly youth reports and submits same to Divisional Headquarters; ensures the accuracy and completeness of the same. Assists in preparing the Christian Education budget; monitors expenditures to ensure compliance to budget limitations. Prepares and maintains accurate records, lists, logs, and reports regarding the Christian Education Programs. Types and distributes correspondence for various groups; develops and mails informational flyers to promote various Corps activities; sends reminders and remembrances to members of Corps programs. Other Responsibilities (5%) Serves as member of the camp staff throughout the summer. Leads, plans and coordinates annual Sunday School Carnival, and special youth retreats. Leads, plans, coordinates, and instructs community programs. Knowledge of the Bible, doctrine and theology. Knowledge of principles and practices of Christian education, child development and family relations. Knowledge of effective teaching skills and practices for youth programs. Knowledge of a wide variety of creative resources and practices which facilitate the modern development and promotion of Christian education programs. Ability to recruit, lead, and motivate volunteers to teach Christian education classes/programs. Ability to communicate and work with youth, adults, and seniors in a compassionate manner   Ability to plan, organize, and promote Christian education group functions. Ability to maintain control of events dealing with multiple age groups. Ability to serve as a resource for the development of Christian education programs. Ability to establish and nurture relationships with adults and children of all ages and their families. Ability to communicate effectively with young people in a teaching environment  Ability to lead Corps programs including Sunday services. Ability to perform in front of a large audience  Ability to administer programs within established budget constraints. Ability to become and remain certified to operate Salvation Army vehicles per insurance requirements.   MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED   Education and Experience Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Education or a related field, AND three years’ experience developing and leading Christian education programs for large groups, OR any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Must be a uniform wearing Salvationist in good standing based on program requirements. Certifications/Licenses Valid State Driver's License Valid State of Arkansas Commercial Driver's License may be required if Corps vehicles include school bus size vehicle.  (Must meet the guidelines provided by the state, DOT, and the automobile insurance provider as pertaining these vehicles.) Physical Requirements Ability to meet attendance requirements. Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language. Ability to perform mathematical calculations. Ability to type. Ability to operate various general office equipment including a telephone and computer. Duties are usually performed seated.  Sitting may be relieved by brief or occasional periods of standing or walking. Work may involve driving a vehicle on occasion to transport passengers to and from Corps programs. Working Conditions Work is normally performed in a normal office or Corps environment where there are little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.  Work may require driving a vehicle on occasion with exposure to outdoor temperatures and heavy traffic.
