Dispatcher, Sr. coordinates drivers and vehicles to convey freight or passengers to assigned destinations in a timely and efficient manner. Maintains contact with drivers to communicate updates, delays, or special instructions and relay delivery status to customers. Being a Dispatcher, Sr. records driver assignments, delivery time, and other transportation data in a computer database to track metrics. Ensures drivers are compliant with all DOT, state, local, and company regulations. Additionally, Dispatcher, Sr. requires a high school diploma. Typically reports to a supervisor. The Dispatcher, Sr. works independently within established procedures associated with the specific job function. Has gained proficiency in multiple competencies relevant to the job. We are seeking a professional and skilled Dispatcher to join our team. In this role, you will receive emergency and non-emergency calls and make quick decisions to ensure the proper action is taken. The ideal candidate is highly organized with the ability to multi-task and work well under pressure.
Responsibilities
- Receive inbound emergency and non-emergency calls
- Collect and document information from callers
- Prioritize calls according to the level of urgency
- Transmit information to the appropriate person or department
- Direct response units to appropriate location
- Monitor status of the response team
- Invoicing
- Monitoring the schedule and day-to-day jobs
- Ability to multitask with different, and sometimes conflicting, events happening at the same time
- Use radio, phone or computer to send crews, vehicles or other field units to appropriate locations
- Monitor the route and status of field units to coordinate and prioritize their schedule
- Provide field units with information about orders, traffic, obstacles and requirements
- Enter data in computer system and maintain logs and records of calls, activities and other information
Qualifications
- High school diploma/GED
- Previous experience as a Dispatcher or in a similar position
- Excellent typing and data entry skills
- Understanding of best practices and procedures for emergency response situations
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Highly organized with the ability to multitask and prioritize projects
- Ability to work well under pressure
