Distance Learning and Education Director manages administrative functions of the distance learning program. Develops college strategic initiatives and participates in university long-term planning and policy setting. Being a Distance Learning and Education Director leads college in fundraising and cultivating relationships with donors. Provides senior level administrative leadership in areas of curriculum development, institutional assessment and improvement, human resource, faculty development and performance appraisals, budget and finance, and facilities planning and management. Additionally, Distance Learning and Education Director requires an advanced degree. Typically reports to top management. The Distance Learning and Education Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function.     ABHS SPED Director Job description

     

     

    In collaboration with the Executive Director/Principal and Dean of Instruction, the Special Education Director is responsible for and facilitates the structures, processes, and supports that will guarantee that the needs of special education students are being met appropriately. This position ensures that the school complies with state and federal special education regulations. In collaboration with stakeholders, the Special Education Coordinator envisions and implements the Least Restrictive Environment for our students, whether it is inclusion or specialized learning environments. Depending on student needs, there exists the potential to teach one class or advisory.

     

    Required Qualifications: Special Education License (Level 2 or higher) and/or Professional License (such as an Interventionist or Social Worker), prior administrative experience, and experience with special education program design, implementation, and compliance.

    Experience with differentiation and delivery of accommodations in a classroom setting is essential. Initiative and follow-through are expectations of the position. Must have experience writing compliant IEPs.

    • Leadership / Program Development experience
    • Strong organizational and documentation skills
    • Classroom and instructional experience
    • Ability to provide intervention support in Reading and/or Math

    Job Responsibilities:

     

    Special Education Compliance

     

    • Write and attend IEPs
    • Facilitate the FBNBIP process for students with IEPs
    • Disseminate all pertinent Special Ed law components to appropriate staff
    • Ensure all elements of IEPs, delivery of service and documentation are up-to-date, accurate, and compliant with state regulations and IDEA.
    • Maintain accurate and current records, and provide all necessary documentation for audits, re-chartering, and reporting
    • Ensure a compliant evaluation process for students
    • Facilitate contracts for and monitor all ancillary services

     

     

     

    Delivery of Service

     

    • Conduct observations of students for staff
    • Facilitate access to appropriate learning technology for students
    • Attend off-campus transition IEPs for incoming 9th graders
    • Work with outside agencies such as DVR, PED, and other schools, including APS and state charters, regarding special education needs
    • Schedule and facilitate school visits for potential parents and students
    • Is available during new student/parent orientation and all open houses to answer special education questions
    • Support the request for accommodations for ACT, SAT, or other assessments for post-secondary advancement
    • Administer Alternative Assessments
    • Communicate and coordinate all testing accommodations for students with IEPs
    • Track and communicate graduation status for students with IEPs

     

     

     

    Supervision Responsibilities

     

    • Coordinate and oversee all special education programs and responsibilities
    • Recruit, hire, supervise, and oversee the quality of service of special education staff (e.g., department assistant, Educational Assistants), ancillary services (Interpreters, OT, PT, SLP, etc... ), including evaluators (diagnosticians, school psychologist, etc).
    • Oversee school-based Medicaid reporting
    • Create schedules for all students with IEPs

     

    Collaboration Responsibilities

     

    • Collaborate with and advise the Student Support team in effectively delivering services and addressing student need
    • Meet with the Executive Director regarding budgeting and compliance-related aspects of special education
    • With the Student Support Team, coordinate and organize groups that support at-risk students
    • Facilitate communication between IEP consultants, parents, leadership, and regular education staff
    • Attend Full Staff meetings, trainings, and senior team, lead team, and instructional team meetings
    • Collaborate with the Senior Team to ensure timely graduation for special education students

    Program Leadership Responsibilities

     

    • Provide focus and direction for the Special Education team (teachers, EAs, related services)
    • Facilitate professional development activities related to special education
    • Participate as an active member of the school's leadership body
    • Develop proposals, programs, and grants to meet school goals

     

    Contract Length: 217 Days - ABHS is an ERB employer
