Distance Learning and Education Director manages administrative functions of the distance learning program. Develops college strategic initiatives and participates in university long-term planning and policy setting. Being a Distance Learning and Education Director leads college in fundraising and cultivating relationships with donors. Provides senior level administrative leadership in areas of curriculum development, institutional assessment and improvement, human resource, faculty development and performance appraisals, budget and finance, and facilities planning and management. Additionally, Distance Learning and Education Director requires an advanced degree. Typically reports to top management. The Distance Learning and Education Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function.     Full-time, benefits-eligible, grant-funded, exempt, non-classified. This position is expected to last the duration of the grant.

    Summary: The Director of Apprenticeship and Work Based Learning will oversee the development, implementation, and evaluation of state and DOL level apprenticeship opportunities. The director will work with local and regional business and industry partners to develop and maintain pre-apprenticeship and apprenticeship programs based on employment trends and needs. Participation in local industry committees, steering committees, and meetings as necessary.

    General Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Provides leadership for the planning, development and delivery of pre-apprenticeship and apprenticeship programs offered leveraging credit and continuing education programming.
    • Coordinate with employers and workforce partners to expand pre-apprenticeships and apprenticeships including adult, incumbent worker and youth.
    • Evaluate work/life experience to determine eligibility/qualifications for Prior Learning Credit.
    • Assist in the development of marketing strategies and material to publicize apprenticeship programs.
    • Responsible for the management, documentation, and accountability for apprenticeship programs sponsored and supported by the college.
    • Provide leadership in the development and implementation of programming focused on applied technologies including manufacturing and industrial training opportunities.
    • Maintain and build working relationships with college teams, business and industry, governmental agencies, community organizations and workforce development partners to ensure quality and relevance to programs.
    • Research new opportunities for business and community engagement supporting manufacturing and industrial workforce development.
    • Travel locally, regionally, and statewide to maintain business and industry partnerships and to effectively manage all aspects of pre-apprenticeship and apprenticeship programs.
    • Work effectively in a team-based environment.
    • Participate in subject or program leadership teams and college-wide committees.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited higher education institution is required. Master’s degree preferred.
    • Experience working within economic and/or workforce development.
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
    • Strong organizational, communication, leadership, and management skills.
    • Ability to both manage and lead small or large projects.

    Physical/Work Demands:

    • Work in a standard office environment and use office equipment. Some travel will be required.
