JOB DESCRIPTION

QUALIFICATIONS:

(1) Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution,

(2) Valid Alabama teacher certification, and

(3) Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of child development and especially of characteristics of students in the age group assigned. Knowledge of the prescribed curriculum. Knowledge of current educational research. Basic understanding and knowledge of use of current technology. Knowledge of learning styles and skill in using varied teaching methods to address student learning styles. Skill in oral and written communication with students, parents and others. Ability to plan and implement activities for maximum effectiveness. Ability to assess levels of student achievement effectively, analyze test results and prescribe actions for improvement. Ability to maintain appropriate student supervision so that students have a safe and orderly environment in which to learn. Ability to work effectively with peers, administrators and others.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Monitor and record student attendance
• Utilize student data from classroom teachers, as applicable
• Develop an instructional plan according to program goals
• Record student grades, as applicable (credit or grade recovery)
• Manage class resources
• Report any and all accidents/incidents to the building principal
• Maintain a classroom climate which nurtures and supports a learning environment
• Ensure students' safety during class activities
• Monitor and assist with snack breaks
