Distance Learning and Education Director manages administrative functions of the distance learning program. Develops college strategic initiatives and participates in university long-term planning and policy setting.   • Muskingum University invites applications for its Director of the Center for Teaching and Learning. This position will play a key role in advancing the University’s strategic goal to serve a continuum of learners in a variety of modalities and formats. Reporting to the Provost, the Director will deliver trainings and provide support on the most current practices and technologies. This position will be part of a dynamic, collaborative team focused on excellence in instructional design and delivery.

    MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Assist faculty with online course design and development using a systematic instructional design model.
    • Conduct training in the most up-to-date practices and technologies in instructional design and learning applications for online, hybrid, and face-to-face environments.
    • Provide technical support to faculty using the Blackboard Learning Management System (or similar) and Microsoft 365.
    • Serve as the primary point of contact for the design and delivery of courses through a national course-sharing consortium, including the review of courses against the Quality Matters Rubric.
    • Collaborate with faculty and the Library Director to develop instructional materials and curate resources, including low- and no-cost course materials, to ensure an enriched learning experience.
    • Provide appropriate guidance to the Faculty Teaching Fellows.
    • Develop a robust program for new faculty orientation and onboarding.

    REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

    • Master’s degree from an accredited college or university.
    • Experience equivalent to one year of employment in instructional design or related field.
    • Experience with course design and Blackboard or similar learning management system.
    • Knowledge of universal design and the creation of ADA compliant online courses.
    • Proficiency with multimedia authoring tools.

    PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

    • Ability to communicate orally and in writing with a diverse community of users who possess varying levels of technical knowledge.
    • Experience in higher education and/or K-12.
    • Ability to resolve technical problems and provide support to faculty, students, and staff.
    • Knowledge of innovative teaching practices and best practices for delivering online instruction.
    • Ability to respond to several demands at one time.
