Distance Learning and Education Director manages administrative functions of the distance learning program.       Job Summary:
      Under the direction of the Superintendent, the director provides leadership, coordination and facilitation in the development and implementation of PK-12 curriculum in accordance with district policy. The Director collaboratively plans and coordinates district-level staff development opportunities to ensure the implementation and evaluation of instructional programs; oversees all PK-12 district-level standardized testing, assessment and evaluation as required by federal, state or local mandates; along with the elementary principal, completes and coordinates Federal Programs (Title, Homelessness, etc.); provides support and leadership for building level principals on tasks assigned by the Superintendent. The Director develops, directs, evaluates and administers procedures, programs, budgets, staffing, and staff development as related to the above programs/services and advises the Superintendent and Administrative Cabinet on matters regarding Instructional Programs district wide. The Director provides oversight, support and training for district employees on continuous improvement processes and practices.

      Responsibilities:
      • Oversees and evaluates the District curriculum review process to assure the district’s curriculum meets the needs of students and complies with state and federal requirements and standards
      • Oversees, monitors, evaluates, and implements school improvement efforts, programs and activities, focused on data-informed decision making
      • Organizes and manages district-level staff development
      • Oversees the yearly district staff development report to the state department
      • Provides district with leadership in Read Act Initiatives and serves as the district’s Literacy Lead
      • Coordinates and manages the District Strategic Plan and Portrait of a Graduate Initiatives
      • Coordinates and manages standards based grading initiatives
      • Coordinates and manages district Multi-Tiered Systems of Support
      • Develops long-range program goals consistent with goals and objectives of the Board of Education and State Department of Education
      • Responsible for staff oversight and development, and on-going leadership of departments
      • Assists in supporting Principals
      • Assists in interviewing, hiring, evaluating and supporting district teachers, coordinators and building administrators (e.g. principals)

      • Leads World’s Best Workforce and Achievement and Integration initiatives and reports

      Qualifications:
      • Administrative license preferred
      • Possess a high level of organizational and communication skills
      • Knowledgeable computer user; familiarity with Student Information Systems
      • Solid classroom management skills based on current research practices
      • Willingness to be involved in other aspects of the New London-Spicer culture and community
      • Team Player and team-oriented thinker
      • Maintains and shares a level of professional expertise
      • Trained in or be willing to be trained in state approved Science of Reading programs
