Distribution Director manages and deploys the operational strategy, business processes, and systems for overall distribution operations, including order fulfillment, warehousing, inventory management, and transportation. Communicates and monitors production measurement metrics and sets performance targets at the team and individual level for all distribution-related functions that align with company objectives and are within regulatory guidelines. Being a Distribution Director utilizes data-driven analytical tools and systems to continuously monitor operations, identify inefficiencies, and develop optimization strategies. Troubleshoots and resolves escalated operational issues. Additionally, Distribution Director ensures all operations adhere to industry safety protocols and comply with OSHA, DOT, or other governmental regulations. May require a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a director. The Distribution Director typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Director of Food Distribution Programs

  • General Description:

    The Director of Food Distribution Programs provides strategic direction for the Food Bank’s distribution programs, ensuring their long-term strategic growth and development and efficient and effective daily implementation. These programs include Mobile Markets: Mega distributions and Pop-up Markets, Curbside, Home Delivery Program, and Senior Programs, including Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP) and HOPE.

    Reporting to the Chief Program Officer, this position is highly visible internally and externally and the ideal candidate will bring a variety of attributes, knowledge, and skills, including a strong program management and program operations background, coupled with strategic leadership skills. This position requires an ability to see the big picture and good attention to detail. A high level of emotional intelligence and the ability to build strong relationships will allow them to easily engage with varied community partners and stakeholders, as well as internal departments of the Food Bank. This position manages a team of over 12 full time staff members along with interns and volunteers. The Director of Distribution Programs has two direct reports Market Manager and Senior Programs Manager.

    Essential Functions:

    • Create and operationalize a strategic vision for CTFB’s distribution programs and initiatives and direct department and programmatic activities, project implementation and partnership development in alignment with that vision.

    • Lead the strategic oversight, development goal setting and management of the CTFB distribution programs including Mobile Markets, Home Delivery, Senior Programming, and Curbside in alignment with the organization’s strategic objectives.

    • Lead and motivate a high functioning team; Hire, train, mentor, supervise and evaluate staff.

    • Build strong relationships and strategically engage with the San Antonio Food Bank (SAFB) community partners; explore and build new strategic partnerships that prepare us to grow and strengthen our programs.

    • Develop and implement strategies that will maximize the synergies among program areas, including implementing new pilot projects to enhance and expand our programming.

    • Monitor and report on key metrics related to program and partnership ROI and generate reports to inform program and partnership strategy and make recommendations to leadership team.

    • Direct the preparation, maintenance and distribution of departmental work plans, program management reports; in addition, track and monitor program progress to goals.

    • Act as an internal resource and expert for several federal feeding programs including TEFAP and CSFP, ensuring SAFB guidelines are clear regarding food handling, storage, and distribution policies and are carried out for all USDA products within the distribution programs and partnerships.

    • Serve as programmatic liaison to external partners, including representing Food Bank at national, regional, and local meetings as well as engage in face-to-face meetings with existing and prospective community partners.

    • Build strong internal cross-departmental relationships across the Food Bank, with a specific focus on core operational teams interacting daily with partners food sourcing, transportation, and warehouse.

    • Advocate internally and externally for policies and processes that enhance the partner and client experience.

    • Bachelor's degree in public policy, social work, business or related field preferred; four years of work experience may be substituted, in lieu of degree.

    • Minimum of 5-8 years of significant professional experience in non-profit sector, public affairs, program management or other relevant experience

    • Minimum of 5 years of experience managing full time paid staff.

    • Knowledge of federal feeding programs and experience with food distribution programs, or the Feeding America network of food banks preferred, but not required.

    • In-depth knowledge of the Southwest Texas community and the nonprofit sector.

    • Demonstrable experience in community engagement including proven track record in developing and managing high profile partnerships with public, private and community organizations.

    • Strong analytical ability to utilize program data to inform program development; strategic thinker capable of shaping overall business strategy.

    • High level of emotional intelligence, political astuteness, diplomacy and relationship building skills.

    • Demonstrated program management experience, including experience building and expanding programs.

    • Understands and values equity as an organizational operating principle and is committed to continued learning on issues related to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

    • Knowledge of racial justice, social equity, and systemic racism; sensitivity to issues and concerns of communities of color and other diverse groups.

    • Strength in hiring, recruiting, managing, developing, coaching, and retaining individuals and teams, empowering them to elevate their levels of responsibility, span-of-control, and performance.

    • Experience working with volunteers and families of varying socio-economic backgrounds.

    • Excellent analytical, interpersonal, organizational, and communications skills.

    • Ability to organize and manage multiple projects with attention to detail and accuracy while adhering to deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

    • Ability to manage time efficiently and to work independently with minimum supervision.

    • Proficient using Microsoft Office products including Outlook, Word, and advanced Excel skills.

    • Valid Government Issued Driver’s License and proof of insurance.
