Coatings Technical Service & Development Chemist

Location-Norwalk, CT

King Industries, Inc. is actively looking to hire a Technical Service & Development Chemist within the Coatings Additive Division. Ideal candidates should have a bachelor’s degree in chemistry or a related field, with 0-2 years of experience.

Skills Required

• Must possess the ability to develop technical expertise in formulating and testing industrial coatings.
• Excellent formulating skills & practical working knowledge of general chemistry in a laboratory environment.
• General knowledge of industrial coatings, applications, performance requirements, formulations, and test methods.
• Excellent communication skills, written and verbal plus the ability to interface well with customers.
• Ability to perform duties/achieve objectives with minimum supervision.
• Regular and consistent attendance at our Norwalk location is required.

Education and Experience Requirements

• Minimum B.S. degree in Chemistry.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Demonstrate ability to learn and apply knowledge in waterborne/high solids/solventless and specialty coating systems, including urethane systems (2K, 1K, hybrid) and melamine crosslinked systems.
• Work with TS&D and R&D to facilitate development of new products.
• Develop formulations and performance data needed to support the marketing of products for use in waterborne, high solids, and specialty coatings applications.
• Prepare coating formulations and test panels.
• Evaluate and interpret test results and offer suggestions and recommendations.
• Prepare progress/final reports on a regular basis.
• Handle customer requests for product information and offer specific product recommendations to help customers solve specific problems.
• Maintain a working knowledge of King’s additives for coatings.
• Ability to perform basic physical tasks.
• Serve as an internal auditor in Company management systems.
• Participate in Company wide effort to promote quality assurance in compliance with ISO 9001, ISO 14001, & ISO 45001.
