Divisional Merchandising Manager directs and develops merchandising plans and operational systems to achieve financial objectives. Utilizes sales, research, and trend analytics to develop strategies for merchandise categories and optimize product assortments. Being a Divisional Merchandising Manager develops merchandise plans and pricing that support key strategic initiatives, launches, top sellers, seasonal campaigns, and trends. Partners across functions to manage vendor relationships, identify new vendors, and negotiate favorable contract terms. Additionally, Divisional Merchandising Manager requires a bachelor's degree in marketing, merchandising, business or other related field. Typically reports to top management. The Divisional Merchandising Manager manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure.     Ministry partner with SVP and VPs to implement Young Life culture and Learning and Leadership strategies.

    Essential Duties

    Spiritual Development – “Following Jesus” includes: Prayer and spiritual disciplines, fellowship, growth and health and church relationships.

    • Maintain personal spiritual health by regular devotion, solitude, and prayer.
    • Seek and maintain relationships and disciplines in the context of active participation in a church community.
    • Hospitable, Christ-like attitude of servant leadership.
    • Solid biblical and theological foundation.
    • Ensure that all Young Life ministry in the division is designed and carried out with a dependence on prayer that takes place out of the overflow of a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

    Leadership Development — “Equipping leaders, committee and staff” includes key volunteer care, recruiting, team building and training, supervision and vision casting.

    • Ensure core values, leadership formation, Young Life Mission, Vision, Value, Methods and operational learning is focused and sequenced for all staff and volunteers in the division.
    • Create sustainable and aligned national learning and leadership teams across the division.
    • Manage the high level framework and support the execution of learning.
    • With SVP/national leadership, provide leadership guidance to division-wide and national learning events.
    • Develop and maintain curriculum for every level of learning with the Learning Teams.
    • Deliver resources and expectations to regional directors in the division in partnership with the SVP. Including “Train the Trainer” conferences and other forms of communication.
    • Interpret and contextualize policies that will impact leadership development.
    • Ensure Map-Tree-List implementation at every level.
    • Monitor mid-year and final evaluations. Follow up with trainers and regional directors who have not reported.
    • Create a pipeline for future staff from the division's DGL program.
    • Direct or serve on an interview team as appropriate.
    • Organize task forces to create learning tools or experiences as consistent with the divisional strategic plan regarding learning.

    Resource Development — “Fueling the ministry” includes events, major donor care, public relations (branding) and TDS team.

    • Raise personal support as directed by supervisor

    Direct Ministry — “Proclaiming and modeling” includes contact work, club, Campaigners and camp.

    • Lead, create, and provide follow-up for training events such as Women’s Leadership Accelerator, Rika, HOT, and more.
    • Partner with Operations and HR to execute proper onboarding for staff at all levels.
    • Participate in the training of staff associates as requested.
    • Assist regional and country directors in developing Young Life leadership programs.
    • Lead or recruit excellent training for Box 3 countries.
    • Be involved in a local Young Life ministry in some capacity.
    • Travel to countries in the division to observe Young Life in action.

    Ministry Support — “Taking care of business” includes accounting, administration, communication (internal), data management and strategic plan.

    • Maintain professionalism concerning office hours, dress, conduct and time management, adhering to all Young Life policies and procedures.
    • Provide clear, prompt, appropriate and professional communication to everyone within the scope of ministry.
    • Develop an appropriate system for reporting, expense report responsibilities and the use of divisional funds using Young Life accounting applications.
    • Accept both short and long-term assignments and projects that relate to accomplishing strategic initiatives.
    • Ensure good communication on training issues with the SVP, regional/country directors and trainers in the division. Represent area and divisional concerns to the Young Life Learning and Leadership department both divisionally and in the US, and effectively represent Learning and Leadership to the field.
    • Provide accountability for learning standards and communicate strengths and weaknesses to the SVP.
    • Work with Learning and Leadership to carry out i100 divisional learning times.

    Specific Working Conditions:

    • This position allows for remote work within the Africa East Division.
    • Will include frequent international travel:
      • Yearly L&L Summit in the US (likely September)
      • HOT, RIKA, i100 (2x/year), and other training events
      • Twice a year African L&L team meeting
      • Travel to countries to see ministry or training in action.

    • Transmits the ministry values of Young Life.
    • Ability to receive and deliver feedback to all varied audiences.

    Education:

    • BA or BS
    • MA and/or additional Biblical/Theological course work is a plus.

    Qualifications Required For The Job

    • Minimum of 10 years in Young Life field ministry.
    • Proven relational skills with both kids and adults.
    • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills.
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
