Job Description
Virginia Tech has a unique and exciting opportunity for a Coordinator in the Research Conflict of Interest (COI) Program. The Research COI Program assumes a critical role in the research enterprise at Virginia Tech by identifying and managing financial conflicts of interest to promote objectivity. The program determines whether disclosed financial interests could directly and significantly affect the design, conduct, or reporting of sponsored research. If so, the program must ensure that a plan to manage the financial interest is developed and implemented before the research starts. In addition to its financial conflict of interest responsibilities, the program serves a critical role for the university by administering the university's system for outside activity and financial interest disclosure.
This position will be in the Division of Scholarly Integrity and Research Compliance, a critical unit within the Office of Research and Innovation that assists researchers with the fulfillment of their research compliance responsibilities. The Research COI Coordinator will join a dedicated team of professionals working to ensure ethical excellence in disclosure and compliance with related regulations.
The Research COI Coordinator will complete financial conflict of interest reviews and facilitate other activities in accordance with university policy 13010, Conflict of Interest. The incumbent will serve as a subject matter expert on disclosure and the related partnerships the Research COI Program maintains to facilitate the university-wide disclosure process. The incumbent will provide guidance and referrals to the university community for their questions about the disclosure process and its application to their situations. As a liaison between faculty and the program, the Research COI Coordinator will advise faculty on disclosure and regulatory compliance and develop ways to communicate this information effectively.
This position requires the ability to follow instructions and work independently; a strong focus on customer service, problem solving, and creativity in developing tools and solutions; working in an organized manner under tight deadlines; and effective interpersonal, teamwork, and communication skills.
