Drafting Supervisor supervises a team within an organization's computer-aided design (CAD) department. Plans, assigns, and reviews the work of drafters and other employees working on design projects. Being a Drafting Supervisor ensures deadlines, goals, and production standards for the department are met. Analyzes data and reviews drawings/plans to ensure quality of work and project feasibility. Additionally, Drafting Supervisor reviews project results and makes recommendations for improvement. Provides CAD technical support and develops solutions. Uses knowledge of the field to keep the department's software, techniques, and tools up to date. Typically requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a manager. The Drafting Supervisor supervises a group of primarily para-professional level staffs. May also be a level above a supervisor within high volume administrative/production environments. Makes day-to-day decisions within or for a group/small department. Has some authority for personnel actions. To be a Drafting Supervisor typically requires 3-5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. Thorough knowledge of functional area and department processes. Job Description
Our client is seeking a Drafter for creating, modifying, and organizing Solid Models using SolidWorks, as well as managing engineering documentation in both physical and electronic formats. This position requires translating theoretical engineering concepts into solid models and ensuring that all necessary tolerances and specifications are accurately incorporated into drawings and other documentation. Proficiency in SolidWorks CAD software is a fundamental requirement, along with utilizing ERP system and various Microsoft Office applications for documentation purposes. Strong teamwork skills are essential for collaborating with diverse individuals within the organization.
Duties and responsibilities
Create Technical Drawings: Under the direction of engineering management, use SolidWorks CAD software to generate solid models and drawings for specific manufacturing processes, tools, fixtures, gauges, and assemblies.
Create Process Documentation: Utilize the ERP system to develop process documents used during production, describing machining tolerances and inspection methods.
Update Technical Drawings: Keep prints up to date as new revisions are required.
Update Process Documentation: Maintain accuracy by updating ERP documents to reflect any changes.
Interact Successfully: Collaborate with peers and coworkers of all levels in the process and document creation to ensure accuracy and ease of use.
Document Control: Maintain the organization and structure of both physical and electronic engineering documents following Standard Work guidelines.
Qualifications
Minimum of 2 years of experience in a manufacturing environment as a draftsman, using electronic drafting software.
Ability to comprehend both written and verbal conceptual descriptions.
Familiarity with approved document flow in a manufacturing organization.
Capability to take personal ownership of projects and drive them to successful completion.
Excellent understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
Proficient in MS Office applications, including Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
Strong team player with professional and courteous interpersonal skills.
Advanced CAD software skills, particularly in the most current version of SolidWorks experience using SURFCAM software would be a plus.
