As an engineer on the Automation team at Spirit AeroSystems, you will be responsible for designing, building, and testing innovative solutions for Spirit’s most challenging Automation projects
Responsibilities:
· Gathers and documents the problem statement and associated engineering requirements
· Would work closely with our Optimized drilling team to address enterprise-wide opportunities for enhancing drilling processes.
· Conceptualizes solutions to challenging problems
· Progresses concept through initial configuration, prototyping, risk reduction and mature technology readiness.
· Utilizes 3D CAD software such as CATIA or Solidworks to generate parts and assemblies
· Validates mechanical designs through simulation and proof of concepts (POC)
· Develops documentation such as manufacturing drawings and bills of materials (BOM)
· Collaborates with electrical and mechatronics engineers on complex designs that require electrical systems and programming integration
· Authors technical documents (User’s manuals, specifications, test plans, patent applications)
· Effectively communicates status and results to team members, management, and customers
· Contributes to a collaborative team environment
Required Skills:
· 3-5 years’ related experience plus a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Mechatronics Engineering from an ABET accredited Engineering program or 1-3 years’ related experience with a Master’s degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited Engineering program.
· Experienced with CAD design packages such as Solidworks or CATIA (Part design, Assembly, and drafting workbenches)
· Microsoft Office Suite
Preferred Skills:
· Experience with drilling technology and drilling processes (Powerfeed drills, drill plates, feeds and speeds, various drill bits, etc.)
· Hands-on experience using and operating laboratory equipment (Power tools, 3D printers, Laser cutters, CNC routers)
· Experience designing and integrating automation equipment used in production settings
· Ability to manage more than one project concurrently and still meet project schedules
· Experience with robotic systems (ABB, Kuka, Fanuc, etc.)
· Experience with high level programming languages such as Python or C#
· Experience working in the Aerospace, Defense or Automotive Industr
