Drilling Operations Director directs and oversees the drilling, production, and engineering operations for an organization. Oversees all aspects of planning and executing drilling projects, developing oil and gas fields, and analyzing reserves. Being a Drilling Operations Director is responsible for directing revisions or enhancements to troubleshoot and solve drilling problems. May coordinate drilling contractors and production managers/superintendents. Additionally, Drilling Operations Director requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a top management. The Drilling Operations Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure.     PLEASE TAKE NOTE: We are currently seeking Steering Hands / Drilling Locators immediately for the surrounding areas of Darby, Kalispell, Browning, Havre. More locations are starting soon. TRAVEL is required. If you currently reside outside the project sites listed above, you will be required to travel for extended periods of time and receive daily per diem reimbursement.

    Job Summary:
    As a Directional Drill Locator, you will play a crucial role in the installation of underground fiber optic cables, enabling seamless communication networks. You will work closely with our project and construction team to accurately locate and guide directional drilling equipment, ensuring the efficient and precise placement of fiber optic infrastructure.

    Duties/Responsibilities:
    ? Drilling Locators are responsible for running a variety of tasks associated with underground construction.
    ? This position must operate steering equipment to successfully deliver the client?s project requirements, and is responsible for all steering activities at the project site including equipment, procedures, and effective troubleshooting and analysis.
    ? Conduct pre-job site surveys to assess ground conditions, existing utilities, and other factors relevant to fiber optic cable installation.
    ? Collaborate with construction managers and field crews to develop drilling plans that optimize the installation of fiber optic infrastructure.
    ? Operate directional drilling equipment controls to navigate the drill head along the planned bore path, minimizing disruption to existing utilities and infrastructure.
    ? Monitor drilling progress and adjust parameters as needed to maintain alignment with project specifications and minimize risks to fiber optic cables.
    ? Identify and address any obstacles or challenges encountered during drilling operations, such as rocky terrain, underground obstructions, or changes in soil conditions.
    ? Conduct post-job inspections to verify the accuracy and quality of the completed bore and ensure the integrity of installed fiber optic cables.
    ? Maintain accurate records of drilling activities, including bore profiles, as-built drawings, and equipment maintenance logs.
    ? Adhere to strict safety protocols and industry regulations to ensure a safe work environment for yourself and your team members.
    ? Stay updated on advancements in fiber communications technology and participate in training programs to enhance your skills and knowledge.
    ? Completes other duties and projects, as assigned.

    Schedule:
    ? Projects typically operate on a 5-6 day per week schedule and could require travel to other job sites.
    ? Workday schedules may be 10 ? 14 hours long, with up to 20 hours of overtime per week.
    ? Occasional travel will be required on the weekends.
    ? Non-local crew members are paid a daily per diem while they are away from their home of record overnight.
    ? It is highly recommended that crew members bring their own vehicle to the location so that they may use it while off duty. Crew members are not assigned company vehicles or rentals.

    Education and Experience:
    ? At least 2 years of proven experience as a Directional Drill Locator or similar role in the fiber communications industry.
    ? High school diploma or equivalent; additional technical training or certification in fiber optics or directional drilling is preferred.

    Required Skills/Abilities:
    ? 2 years of experience surveying for complex projects.
    ? Advanced math skills
    ? Experience utilizing survey equipment such as a GPS, Total Station, etc.
    ? Experience with steering programs.
    ? Proficiency in using electronic locating equipment and software, with a strong understanding of fiber optic cable characteristics and identification.
    ? Familiarity with directional drilling equipment and techniques, including HDD (Horizontal Directional Drilling) rigs and bore planning software.
    ? Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to make real-time decisions in dynamic work environments.
    ? Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to collaborate with diverse teams.
    ? Physical fitness and the ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and challenging terrains.

    Additional Hiring Requirements:
    ? Must be able to travel throughout various locations in/out of state with some overnight stays as necessary.
    ? Must have a cell phone to clock in/out of mobile application.
    ? Must be able to pass a drug screen and criminal background check (offenses will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis).
    ? Must possess a valid drivers license for the state in which you reside and satisfactory results of a Motor Vehicle Report. CDL highly preferred, but not required.
    ? Verifying your legal right to work in the United States under the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986 (IRCA).

    Physical Requirements:
    ? Ability to work outdoors and to work in all types of outdoor weather.
    ? Ability to walk, sit, stand, bend, twist, stoop, push, pull, carry, and lift as needed.
    ? Ability to coordinate eyes, hands, feet, and limbs in performing skilled movement.
    ? Ability to travel and be away from home for extended periods of time -100% of the position is traveling or in the field performing work in various locations.
