    Are you passionate about supporting parents of children and youth with disabilities? Do you have excellent communication and organizational skills? If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you to make a meaningful impact as a part-time/20-hour/week Parent Engagement Specialist (PES).

    As a Parent Engagement Specialist, you will support parents, youth, caregivers, and families with children in the special education system to grow their knowledge and skills. Your primary responsibility will be to develop and coordinate parent resource programs and services related to children and youth with disabilities, including Early intervention through Transition after Graduation. You will provide one-to-one support and collaborate with community and state organizations, schools, and other stakeholders to enhance the reach and impact of WVPTI’s parent resource initiatives. This position does include local and in-state travel.

    *NOTE: All costs for approved travel are paid by WVPTI (e.g., airfare, accommodations, car rental, per diem for meals while working, etc.).

    WVPTI’s mission is to provide support, training, information, and resources to empower and give voice to individuals, youth, and parents/caregivers of children and youth with disabilities as a non-profit organization dedicated to empowering families and strengthening communities. The programs of WVPTI provide a range of services to fulfill the mission and vision.

    • Maintain confidentiality of families and other staff members.
    • Be prompt in arriving at work sites, meetings, and workshops.
    • Submitting accurate time sheets daily to include descriptions of work performed.
    • Attend and participate in staff meetings as scheduled.
    • Assure your schedule is up to date on the Shared PTI Calendar
    • Assist all staff in meeting timelines and obligations.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:

    • Provide presentations and workshops in and virtually, or low-tech conference calls for parents, caregivers, youth, and other professionals.
    • Preferred knowledge of IDEA, Special Education, Section 504, and other disability topics
    • Attend training and professional development opportunities associated with grant and WVPTI mission.
    • Provide support and assistance so parents, caregivers, youth, and family members can effectively learn, grow, and develop skills to advocate for their educational needs.
    • Attend and/or coordinate parent, disability, and transition resource fairs with local and state partners.
    • Write/design training materials as requested.
    • Effectively utilize technology daily to perform all job duties and WVPTI’s data management tool.
    • Present basic information and topical workshops to parents and professionals working with volunteers. Training is the top priority for contacting and connecting with parents.
    • Provide individual assistance, information, and referral to parents by telephone, email, mail, and in person. Provide intensive one-on-one individual assistance to parents and families when needed.
    • Identify useful and relevant training materials and assist in the production and revision of training materials.
    • Responsible for the distribution, collection, and compilation of evaluation data.
    • Participate in the production of the center's quarterly newsletter, Bits & Pieces
    • Participate in outreach efforts to minority and underserved populations.
    • Participate in the planning, preparing, and producing any Project conferences or events.
    • Network with community programs and agencies and serve on committees as assigned.
    • Any other tasks as assigned. Assisting with disseminating educational and marketable materials (i.e., share rack cards, hand-delivery flyers, newsletters, etc.)
    • Assure sign-in of attendees and evaluations are disseminated, retrieved, and recorded.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Requires a high school diploma or GED and one year of direct work experience in providing support, training, information, resources or public speaking.
    • Represent WVPTI at community and statewide activities.
    • Proficient with Microsoft Office.
    • Demonstrated data entry.
    • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals of diverse economic, ethnic, and social backgrounds.
    • Valid Driver’s License and proof of insurance.
    • Pass a Background check.
    • Demonstrated training or presentation experience for large and small groups.
    • Flexibility and reliability to meet the obligations to travel to provide training.

    Salary is based on experience. No health benefits are offered currently. Reliable transportation is required. Flexible schedule and generous time off allowed.

    Funding is based on grants and be extended or terminated without notice.
