    As an IT Specialist (Information Security), you will perform the following duties:

    • Assist Information System Security Officer (ISSO) in assessing program security effectiveness of hardware and network systems. Reviews, identifies, and documents, gaps at the system and network level, and writes security plans and other documentation required. Ensures all support provided is following established Cyber Security guidelines and IT systems and network are compliant with Federal Information Security Management Act (FISMA).
    • Perform a variety of system, network and security administration activities to support regional employees, stakeholders and mission; Installs, configures, maintains and secures Windows and Red Hat Enterprise Linux server operating systems; Installs, configures, maintains and secures RAID and storage including SAN and DAS; Installs, configures, maintains and secures virtual technologies including VMware ESXI.
    • Manage Active Directory, DNS, DHCP and Group Policy to ensure efficient operations and secure baseline configuration of regional users and computers and servers. Uses knowledge of network technologies to troubleshoot any issues that arise with the local area network.

    This position will be filled under the DOC Alternative Personnel System (CAPS). This system replaced the Federal GS pay plan and structure. Under CAPS, positions are classified by career, pay plan, and pay band.

    The ZP-3 is equivalent to the GS-11/12.

    • This position is not in the bargaining unit.

    To qualify for the 2210 series:

    For all positions individuals must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below.     SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and responsibility to the next lower grade level in the Federal Service. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular competencies/knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. This experience need not have been in the federal government.

    Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations e.g., professional; philanthropic, religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies; knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

    To qualify at the ZP-3 (GS-11) grade level:
    SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must possess one full year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to the ZP-2 (GS-9) in the Federal service. Specialized experience MUST include all of the following
    • Contributing to the installation of server operating systems, storage technologies, and virtual technologies;
    • Ensuring data privacy and security through endpoint encryption and virus protection; and
    • Assisting with developing recommendations, guidance or operating procedures for Information Technology (IT) system security.
    OR

    EDUCATION: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or three (3) full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management, or degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks.

    College Transcript: If you are qualifying based on education, submit a copy of your college transcript that lists college courses detailing each course by the number and department (i.e., Bio 101, Math 210, etc.), course title, number of credit hours and grade earned. You must submit evidence that any education completed in a foreign institution is equivalent to U.S. education standards with your resume. If course content cannot be easily identified from the title of the course as listed on your transcript, you must submit an official course description from the college/university that reflects the content at the time the course was taken.
