Job Description:
Acceptance Recovery is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Addiction Counselor with a strong commitment to a harm reduction philosophy. As an Addiction Counselor, you will play a crucial role in providing support and guidance to individuals struggling with addiction, helping them navigate their recovery journey with an emphasis on harm reduction strategies.
Responsibilities:
Conduct comprehensive assessments: Perform thorough evaluations of clients' substance use history, mental health status, and overall well-being to develop personalized treatment plans.
Provide individual and group counseling: Offer evidence-based counseling services to clients using a harm reduction approach, focusing on reducing harm associated with substance use and promoting healthier behaviors.
Collaborate on treatment plans: Work closely with interdisciplinary teams, including physicians, psychiatrists, and social workers, to develop integrated treatment plans that align with harm reduction principles.
Offer psychoeducation and support: Educate clients and their families about addiction, harm reduction strategies, and available community resources to enhance understanding and promote sustainable recovery.
Facilitate relapse prevention: Help clients identify triggers and develop effective coping mechanisms to prevent relapse, emphasizing harm reduction techniques and harm reduction-based alternatives.
Foster therapeutic relationships: Establish a trusting and empathetic rapport with clients, demonstrating active listening, empathy, and unconditional positive regard to create a safe and non-judgmental therapeutic environment.
Maintain accurate documentation: Document all client interactions, progress notes, and treatment plans in compliance with ethical and legal standards, ensuring confidentiality and privacy.
Stay updated on best practices: Stay informed about the latest research, advancements, and evidence-based interventions in the field of addiction counseling, specifically related to harm reduction approaches.
Requirements:
Education and certification: Possess a master's degree in social work, counseling, or a related field and license to practice mental health. Provisionally licensed counselors seeking supervision (LMSW, tLHMC, tLMFT) are encouraged to apply. In addition to a mental health license, Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselors (CADC) are preferred.
Experience: Have practical experience in a helping profession. Experience in addiction counseling is preferred, preferably in a harm reduction-oriented setting. Experience facilitating group therapy sessions is an asset.
Knowledge and skills: Possess a comprehensive understanding of addiction, mental health, and harm reduction principles. Strong communication, interpersonal, and active listening skills are essential. Attention to detail and ability to document are required.
Empathy and non-judgmental attitude: Demonstrate a genuine and compassionate approach when working with individuals struggling with addiction, fostering an atmosphere of respect, dignity, and acceptance.
Ethical and professional conduct: Adhere to professional ethical guidelines, maintaining strict confidentiality and conducting oneself with integrity and professionalism.
Cultural competency: Display cultural sensitivity and awareness to effectively work with diverse populations, recognizing and respecting individual differences and experiences.

Compensation:
This is a part-time, contract position. It is likely that if we are a good fit the position could grow into full-time. Compensation will be a percentage of revenue generated by billed services; percentage determined by credentials, experience, and expertise.
