    REPORTS TO: Dean of Arts & Humanities

    POSITION STATUS: This is an AFSCME, grant-funded, full-time, Unit I, Grade 19 position with benefits.  This position is subject to grant budget appropriations.

    SALARY:  $63,064.30 annually*  

    *Appointments from outside the bargaining unit begin at Step 1.

    STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

    The EDP Systems Analyst I - Design Programs will provide support for Bristol's Graphic Design & Web Design programs. This position supports workforce training and technical skills needed for students to advance in higher education and prepare to work in the graphic web design industry. The EDP Systems Analyst I will support courses within the Graphic Design and Web Design programs by providing technical guidance to faculty and students and maintaining hardware, software, and peripherals needed for graphic design and web design coursework.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Support the courses within the Graphic Design and Web Design programs by providing technical guidance to faculty and students such as guidance on scanning and printing projects, use of the drawing tablets, use of the cameras, tripods, and lighting set up, as well as specific technical workflows within various graphic software utilized in the design courses. This may include the development of handouts or video demos or a compilation of information sources to support students in gaining the needed technical skills required in the workforce.
    • Work in collaboration with the ITS department on software and hardware installation and troubleshooting issues for the Mac equipment and design software as well as other equipment used in the Design computer labs. This will include installation of Adobe fonts as needed by faculty and students within the program.
    • Maintain the Design computer labs and equipment at the Fall River and New Bedford campuses with the help of work-study student/s; this includes checking supplies, monitoring for damaged or faulty equipment, maintaining log of lab users, checking loaner equipment in and out to design students.
    • Work closely with the coordinator for the design programs to determine how best to support the students and faculty with relevant training to positively serve students' educational and career goals as they prepare for working within the design industry.
    • Provide training for the work-study students who monitor open lab sessions to help students with software, hardware, and peripheral needs as well as assist in common technical workflows. Provide training for faculty on tools and peripherals.
    • Demonstrate a sense of professionalism; consistently reflect Bristol's core values while interacting with members of the Bristol community.
    • Focus on the Commonwealth's Equity Agenda by applying related best practices throughout all job functions.
    • Perform other duties as assigned, consistent with the Collective Bargaining Agreement.


    Job Requirements:

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

    NOTE: Unless otherwise noted, all required qualifications must be met by date of hire.

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Applicants must have at least (A) two years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, professional experience in design-related technical work, or (B) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below.

    SUBSTITUTIONS:

    • An Associate's degree or Bachelor's degree with a major in a design technology-focused field, such as web design, graphic design, animation, interface design, visual communication or a closely-related discipline may be substituted for the required experience.
    • Graduation from a web design & programming, visual communication, visual design, computer science, information systems, or a closely related discipline course of a recognized vocational/technical high school may be substituted for the required experience.

    *Education toward such a degree or diploma will be prorated on the basis of the proportion of the requirements actually completed.

     

    ADDITIONAL REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Demonstrated knowledge of Macintosh environment as well as Adobe Creative Cloud software programs such as Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign and AfterEffects.
    • Experience working with computers and peripheral equipment (Wacom tablets, cameras, scanners, printers)
    • Good written and verbal communication skills as well as strong interpersonal skills; ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Six months of experience and/or training in a design technology field involving working with any of the following: interactive media, time-based media, computers, photography, programming (front-end developing) and/or video production.
    • Some knowledge of Adobe AfterEffects and/or some knowledge of web design coding languages such as HTML, CSS and JavaScript.
    • Some expertise with studio photography.
    • Background in graphic design or web design either through professional experience or higher ed coursework.
    • Associate degree or BFA in Graphic Design or Web Design or related AA or BFA
    • Prior experience providing tutoring or training within the graphic design or web design disciplines, either in an academic or professional setting.
    • Familiar with the community college experience, either as a student or through a prior staff or teaching position.
