JOB TITLE: UNIFORM CRIME REPORT SPECIALIST
DEPARTMENT: POLICE
LOCATION: 600 SW ADAMS STREET, PEORIA, ILLINOIS
HOURS: 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (Monday through Friday)
SUMMARY: The purpose of this position is to maintain compliance with Uniform Crime Reporting standards, edit police reports for submission of statistics, and coordinate the dissemination of information to the department. This is accomplished by reviewing all police reports; collecting data; completing forms; submitting reports; analyzing UCR/NIBRS report data and participants; serving as liaison to the state UCR Coordinator; serving as a resource for UCR coding; and providing technical assistance to other employees. Other duties include assisting with the release of information, photo ID's, registration of offenders, cab license issuance, fingerprinting, and performing other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: High school diploma or GED; over one year up to and including two years progressively responsible related experience; LEADS certification and knowledge of state and federal UCR reporting requirements; minimum typing speed of 45 wpm required. Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience, which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job, considered.
IMPORTANT ATTRIBUTES: Knowledge of UCR standards and procedures; police report sections and fields; recordkeeping, report preparation, filing methods and records management techniques. Skill in using a computer to enter and retrieve data and information; accurately proofreading with accompanying knowledge of grammar, punctuation, and spelling; preparing clear and concise reports, correspondence, and other written materials accurately and rapidly; work requires a comprehensive, practical knowledge of a technical field with use of analytical judgment and decision-making abilities appropriate to the work environment of the organization. Ability to read and interpret documents; write reports, prepare business letters, expositions, and summaries with proper format, punctuation, spelling, and grammar, using all parts of speech; establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of people.
MENTAL/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must have the mental and physical capabilities to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation. Regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, bending, climbing, speak and hear, and lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. Work is performed in a normal office environment with little or no exposure to outdoor temperatures or dirt and dust. Working conditions are typically moderately loud.
