EMT/Paramedic Supervisor supervises emergency medical staff consisting of EMTs, paramedics, and drivers. Administers the staff work schedule to ensure adequate coverage. Additionally, EMT/Paramedic Supervisor may require registry in NREMT. Requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Requires Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). Requires Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) - Basic. Typically reports to a manager. The EMT/Paramedic Supervisor supervises a small group of para-professional staff in an organization characterized by highly transactional or repetitive processes. Contributes to the development of processes and procedures. To be an EMT/Paramedic Supervisor typically requires 3 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor.     Job Summary:

    The Supervisor is responsible to supervise staff, security operations, and administrative activities as required on a shift at the Secure and Non-Secure programs at PLYP. Duties include overseeing the status of the facility security and resident safety and directing the activities of Corrections Counselors and Youth Care Workers. The Supervisor will fill in as a Direct Care Staff in an emergency capacity and serve as a part of the administrative on-call rotation team.

    Responsibilities and Duties:

    · Be present where needed, ready to work to meet responsibilities, including recognizing when situations require more effort, putting in more time when needed, satisfying responsibilities in a timely manner, and providing an example of punctuality and attendance.

    · Be a positive role model throughout all shifts worked at PLYP.

    · Ensure that a professional work environment exists during the shift.

    · Maintain the safety and security of the building residents and staff as outlined by the policy and procedure manual, which includes the knowledge and implementation of the philosophy and policies of PLYP.

    · Assume the responsibility of utilizing the Truthought commitment for the facility and staff.

    · Supervise staff regarding program policies and procedures and address problems and concerns of residents.

    · Effective communication with residents, co-workers, administration, parents and professionals. (Examples: Law enforcement, Probation Officers, Social Workers, Attorneys, Chemical Dependency Counselors, school, and guardian ad litems)

    · Review and approve Direct Care Staffs’ documentation in the staff-to-staff report and daily residents’ logs.

    · Take referrals as appropriate to PLYP’s programs.

    · Receive changeover information from both secure and non-secure programs, assign staff and determine Direct Care Staff work priorities.

    · Field and review calls from law enforcement and probation regarding possible intakes and review reasons for placement.

    · Review court orders and detention paperwork for accuracy and appropriateness.

    · Review all intake files on shift to ensure proper completion.

    · Work with the Program Directors to authorize and monitor visits.

    · Review POSIT Tests, discipline reports, incident reports, and control procedure reports.

    · Oversee resident appeals and ensure that due process and standard operating procedures are followed.

    · Responsible for supervision of daily and weekly housekeeping duties.

    · Supervise staff verification, distribution, and documentation on prescription and non-prescription medications during shift.

    · Supervise staff in addressing routine medical issues and coordinate with administration on any decisions regarding medical attention outside the facility.

    · Authorize staff and assist with restrictive procedures when necessary and review and approve reports prior to the end of the shift to ensure that they are completed thoroughly and properly.

    · Supervise the maintenance of all necessary records related to the secure and non-secure unit and facility operation during his or her shift.

    · Supervise the transportation of residents to and from medical appointments.

    · Assume the responsibility of being a mandated reporter by Minnesota State Law.

    · Responsible for training and orientation of new employees.

    · Adjust shifts and work schedules as needed (Example: sick call, overtime, on-call).

    · Direct and give feedback on staff performance of safety and security checks of the building and residents.

    · Effectively recommend staffing needs to the Program Directors and the Executive Director.

    · Initiate calls to the Program Directors and Executive Director.

    · Conduct and participate in all required training and staff meetings.

    · Assume other duties, responsibilities and projects identified as needed by the employee and approved and assigned by the Program Director and Executive Director.

    · Lifting, moving and carrying 25-50 lbs. using proper techniques.

    · Ability to walk up and down stairs.

    · Ability to kneel or squat for long periods of time.

    · Bending, stretching, standing or sitting for long periods of time.

    · Ability to learn and use de-escalation and proper restraint procedures.

    Qualifications:

    Education: A Bachelor Degree in Sociology, Criminal Justice, Social Work, Psychology, Corrections or closely related field.

    or

    5 Years Experience: Experience providing direct care to adolescents in a correctional or residential setting.

    Successfully complete required background check.

    Annual training as offered by PLYP.

    Valid Driver’s License and current proof of insurance.
