Echocardiograph Technician performs echocardiograms in accordance with established practices and procedures. Provides preliminary diagnostic evaluation and notifies cardiologists of results of examinations. Being an Echocardiograph Technician consults with cardiologist to establish requirements for non-standard examinations and determines technical factors to satisfy requirements. Requires an associate degree, and passing the Echocardiography Registry Exam. Additionally, Echocardiograph Technician typically reports to a manager. POSITION SUMMARY/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Demonstrates technical expertise in the operation of all equipment utilized in the non-invasive cardiology laboratory. Ensures quality, efficiency, and safety in performance of all patient procedures. Has knowledge of thoracic anatomy, especially heart position; of dynamic internal structural anatomy of heart and component functions; of Cardiac pathology and how it alters heart position and internal structural detail. Knows basic principles of M-Mode, 2-Dimensional and Doppler Ultrasound. Is capable of interrelating knowledge of cardiac anatomy and pathology to that concerning the operation of ultrasonography to produce diagnostic quality 2-D images and doppler frequency shift recordings.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
An American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers or Cardiovascular Credentialing International credential is required. New graduates must complete these required credentials within six months of hire. New graduates pending required credentials will work under the supervision of a registered Cardiac Sonographer. Bachelors Degree in related field is preferred. One year in the performance of Echocardiographs and Doppler Ultrasound; working experience in EKG's, Holter Monitoring, and scanning, and exercise tolerance tests is desirable. Two or more years of preferred experience.
