Editor reviews, edits, and re-writes a variety of documents and/or digital content. Responsible for creating and maintaining accurate and compelling content for written copy and/or websites and other online communications media. Being an Editor ensures that all content meets required and accepted format and standards. Evaluates content for clarity, accuracy, and consistency. Additionally, Editor may coordinate with creative team to produce final drafts. Requires a bachelor's degree in journalism or equivalent. Typically reports to a manager. The Editor occasionally directed in several aspects of the work. Gaining exposure to some of the complex tasks within the job function. Our local newspaper is seeking a well-rounded copy editor with a strong attention to detail to oversee all copy that goes into the news and feature sections, online editions and special sections.
Responsibilities include:
- Occasional sports proofing and some daily page design
- Posting story links on our social media page
- Rewriting reader submitted material in preparation for printing
- Overseeing the opinion page and letters to the editor
- Other special projects and tasks as needed
Qualifications:
- Degree in Journalism, English or other related field OR equivalent experience
- Experience working on a newspaper a plus
- Established residency in Pennsylvania
- Knowledge of the local area
- Knowledge of Indesign and using social media
- Knowledge and use of AP Style
- Excellent Organizational Skills
- Good Math Skills
- Ability to meet deadlines while exercising patience
- Ability to keep up with current events and local government news
- Ability to recognize problems and inconsistencies within stories
- Ability to write headlines
