NSEA Director of Accounting
This is a “Professional Staff” position as defined by the NSEA/NSA Negotiated Agreement but is not in the bargaining unit. The person holding this position serves as part of NSEA Membership and Accounting Team. The person holding this position reports to the NSEA Executive Director for evaluation and supervision.
Salary $85,000 commensurate with experience.
Responsibilities
- In compliance with the NSEA’s Internal Control policies, account for all Association Income
- Assist the NSEA Business Manager with maintaining a detailed accounting of expenditures
- Prepare monthly bank reconciliations for all entities
- Provide technical expertise and advice in areas relating to cash flow, cash investments, budget analysis, budget preparation, tax reporting of the NSEA, and local affiliates and other items
- Assist the NSEA Business Manager with the transmittal of NEA dues and NEA/PAC funds
- Maintain the confidentiality of all financial records
- Prepare monthly financial statements for NSEA, Aspiring Educators, NSEA-Retired, NSEA PAC, NSEA Children’s Fund, NSEA Scholarship fund and LEARN
- Serve as chief liaison with NSEA’s auditing firm to prepare preliminary data for the annal audit
- In conjunction with the NSEA auditor, prepare all State and Federal tax returns for all entities
- In conjunction with government relations staff, and in compliance with all State regulations, prepare all Nebraska Political Accountability and Disclosure commission reports
- Become an expert in NEA360 membership and accounts receivable subsystem
- Work with membership staff to design a system to collect and maintain membership data on 25,000 members, which includes collecting annual membership dues through pay methods of check, credit card and electronic funds transfer
- Be a back up to the NSEA Business Manager with the maintenance of files and records, including but not limited to, employment and payroll records, fringe benefits and insurance data, expense records, leave records, etc.
- Comply with all State and Federal employment laws and regulations
- In conjunction with the NSEA Business Manager, prepare the annual budget for the NSEA Board of Directors approval
- In conjunction with the NSEA Business Manager prepare information to 3rd party payroll provider
- Assist the NSEA Management and governance team in formulating economic proposals in collective bargaining with the NSEA staff bargaining unit
- Assist management in preparing documents in labor relations matters
- Serve as chief financial advisor to the Executive Director
- Attend the NSEA Board of Directors meetings and be prepared to answer questions in reference to the monthly financial statements
- Provide training and technical support for local association treasurers and membership chairperson
- Provide financial training for local association treasurers
- File Group exemption filing with IRS for all local associations
- Perform other duties as assigned by NSEA Management
Skills/Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or business Administration with Accounting Emphasis
- CPA Preferred with auditing and tax experience
- A minimum of 3 years of accounting experience
- Familiar with QuickBooks and Microsoft Dynamics accounting software
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Financial and Budget Analysis and Planning
- Detail oriented, well-organized, and able to prioritize work
- Ability to collaborate well with all staff and outside organizational partners
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills

- The position is classified as a “confidential employee” and is exempt under the FLSA
- Work remotely only by express permission of the Executive Director
- Ability to lift 20 pounds when required. While performing duties of the job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, climb, and reach with hands and arms. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
