    Museum Educator
    Part-time, year-round


    Summary:
    The Cleveland Museum of Natural History’s education programs include in-house programs, “Science-to-Go!” outreach programs, and live video conference presentations. Our hands-on science and health lessons are presented to Pre-K – 12th grade students across northeast Ohio, and worldwide via our two Distance Learning studios. Each program is designed to meet specific Ohio Science and/or National Health Education Standards. This Museum Educator role is scheduled part-time, as needed, with a maximum of 28 hours a week, year-round.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
    (Must be able to perform the essential functions of this position with or without reasonable accommodation.)

    • Teach in-house Museum programs, Science-To-Go! Programs, and virtual programs to pre-K to 12th grade students in an enthusiastic, energetic, and scientifically accurate manner.
    • Assist facilitating summer camps
    • Aid in the development, creation, and implementation of supporting curricular materials and activities for programs.
    • Transport (either via personal car or museum vehicle) teaching materials to schools in Cuyahoga and surrounding counties when teaching outreach programs. Hours are varied and include early mornings, evenings, and occasional weekends.
    • Participate in staff meetings and training meetings as required.
    • Communicate and work with an audience who is diverse in culture, age, race, and abilities in a pleasant, tactful, and enthusiastic manner.
    • Present a positive image of the Museum at all times

    Education and/or Experience:
    • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university in education, science, or related field, with 1-2 years of experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • Experience teaching pre-K to 8th grade. Certified teacher a plus. Equivalent teaching experience will be considered.
    • Demonstrated knowledge of and/or teaching experience in science and/or health topic areas. Preference given to candidates with background experience and/or strong content knowledge in biology, life science, anthropology, or health education.

    Other Qualifications
    :
    • Ability to communicate effectively-both verbally and written.
    • Comfortable teaching pre-K to 12th grade students and maintaining classroom discipline during programs.
    • Ability to switch teaching styles throughout the day.
    • Ability to communicate and work effectively with Museum staff, students, parents, and public groups in a professional, pleasant, tactful, and enthusiastic manner.
    • Strong commitment to science education and the mission of the Museum.
    • Ability to work independently as well as with an interdisciplinary, professional team.
    • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office products including Teams, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
    • Available to teach at least 3 days per week (3-5 days preferred) during normal school year school hours (Monday through Friday). Some weekend hours will be required.
    • Valid Ohio Driver’s License required.
    • Ability to lift 50 lbs. with or without reasonable accommodation.
    • Able to load supplies into your own vehicle and transport them with a rolling cart to and from school classrooms.
    • Ability to travel in all types of weather conditions as Museum outreach programs are delivered regardless of weather, as long as driving conditions are considered safe.
