Description:
Heartland AEA has a full-time Mental Health Specialist position currently available, based in the Adel office serving a 192 day contract. This position will be serving the therapeutic classrooms located within the Winterset Community Schools, will be a member of a multidisciplinary team who collaborates to support the design, implementation, and decision-making regarding therapeutic classroom supports. A mental health specialist will serve throughout the program’s continuum of therapeutic supports to meet the social, emotional, behavioral, and mental health (SEBMH) needs of children and youth. This may include: partnering with general and special educators to support generalization of social-emotional skills; providing supplemental small group, skill-based instruction in partnership with classroom teachers; providing direct support to individual children/youth; and utilizing assessment and data-based decision-making methods for formative and progress monitoring of SEBMH.
Qualifications:
Candidates will need to have the ability to communicate effectively with families and school personnel and collaborate in a problem-solving approach. Preference will be given to those with background in both Social Emotional Learning (SEL) practices and academic programming. Training or experience in therapeutic educational practices would be beneficial. Qualified applicants must be appropriately licensed/certified by the Iowa Board of Educational Examiners (or have the ability to obtain a license) and have a post-master’s level of professional training in an approved school psychology training program or possess a master’s degree in social work or hold a master’s degree and a consultant endorsement (or have the ability to obtain the endorsement). Bilingual abilities are a plus, but not required.
