    Job Description

    Job Overview:

    The Senior Refugee Education Specialist (RES) is responsible for IRC Missoula’s refugee school enrollment in alignment with organizational standards and expectations. The Senior RES focuses on bridging the cultural and linguistic gap between refugee families and schools as a liaison. Job duties include enrolling clients in school, building and maintaining a strong partnership with Missoula County Public Schools (MCPS) and other education partners, providing individual support to families/students on case-by-case basis, supporting and training the Early Childcare Education Specialist with daycare, and summer youth programs enrollment, and communicating directly to IRC team including the Health and Education Programs Coordinator.

    Responsibilities:

    • Establish and manage positive partnerships with Missoula County Public Schools
    • Coordinate with IRC staff and report directly to Health Programs Coordinator for client referrals and enrollment
    • Coordinate bus transportation with schools and clients
    • Assist with preparation of Cultural Orientation, including but not limited to printing educational materials, setting up the venue, following up communication with IRC Missoula caseworkers regarding client’s attendance, and letting presenter knows the date, time, and venue
    • Assist with collecting CO-specific data and gathering feedback from clients
    • Coordinate with CO volunteers for children during the CO sessions
    • out program quality assurance activities as requested.
    • Train and guide the activities of colleagues and support staff, including the Early Childhood Education Specialist, AmeriCorps volunteers, and other volunteers and interns to meet programmatic goals
    • Create and manage relevant community partnerships
    •  Document and track school enrollment progress and keep IRC team up to date
    • ·Attend regularly scheduled meetings with other IRC staff and volunteers as part of the review, evaluation, and program maintenance process
    • Transport clients to/from school and daycare
    • Other related duties as assigned

    Job Requirements:

    Education:

    Undergraduate degree required, studies in education, teaching, English language acquisition or similar field preferred.

    Work Experience:

    Minimum of one (1) year experience working with students required; public school, ESL experience preferred.

    Demonstrated Skills and Competencies:

    • Multi-cultural experience and demonstrated ability to communicate well with people of varied backgrounds required
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking and presentation creation
    • Proven ability to take initiative, creatively problem solve and lead with versatility in a fast-paced work environment
    • Ability to engage youth from vulnerable backgrounds including refugee youth in long-term service delivery
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite required
    •  Proven experience in using data and tracking systems
    • Strong attention to detail with the ability to prioritize and manage time effectively
    • Strategic, creative, problem solver capable of working well independently and as a part of a team.
    • Cross-cultural understanding and strong communication skills, both written and verbal
    • Must have a valid driver’s license, active insurance policy, access to reliable transportation and the ability to travel regularly throughout the service delivery area for home visits
    • Flexible availability necessary

    Working Environment:

    • A combination of standard office environment, remote work, and ‘Field’ time within the service delivery area to perform the above outline responsibilities.
    • May require occasional weekend and/or evening work.
