    About the Cedarburg Art Museum

    The Cedarburg Art Museum, located in the historic 1898 Jochem-Wittenberg Mansion, is dedicated to collecting, preserving, and exhibiting the art of Wisconsin, with a special emphasis on Cedarburg and its surrounding areas.     About the Position

    The Curator is responsible for maintaining the Museum’s collection and the curation of engaging exhibitions, representing the Museum through social engagement at public events, and providing artistic and historical context of the collection to guests, docents, and members of the staff. Some of the requirements of the position include:

    • Lead all exhibition and art installations and uninstallations on the public floors.
    • Manage communication and exhibition coordination with artists before, during, and after exhibitions.
    • Manage and hold fiscal responsibility of collection and exhibition budgets as approved by the Board of Directors and work with the Executive Director on fiscal changes or challenges as needed.
    • Manage collections assessment with collection development policy and work with the Executive Director on policy changes as needed.
    • Assist to identify community, public, and private financial support for museum programs, exhibitions, and services. In cooperation with the Executive Director, assist with securing necessary funds to sponsor exhibits or purchase acquisitions for the museum’s permanent collection.
    • Maintain knowledge of current trends and initiatives in museum services.
    • Work closely and cooperatively with interns and exhibition volunteers; supervise their duties, tasks, hours, and responsibilities to enhance museum exhibitions and patron services.
    • Manage collection development and collection maintenance.
    • Consistently evaluate museum services, collection, and exhibitions to exceed patron expectations.
    • Plan and execute Opening Receptions for artists and exhibitions, including onsite management of the receptions.
    • Train and continuously educate docents in exhibition information to best connect with guests.
    • Work in collaboration with all staff during significant revenue-generating events and festivals. Staff the museum on weekends if/when needed.

    Qualifications

    · Master’s degree preferred or relevant work experience in art history or museum studies.

    · At least three years of professional experience preferred.

    · Professional experience in managing projects is highly desirable.

    · Professional experience in art research is highly desirable.

    Salary & Benefits

    · Full-time, exempt, salaried position: $47,000-$50,000 range dependent on experience

    · The Cedarburg Art Museum does not offer benefits at this time.
