Job Description - Training & Safety Specialist - SGSWe are currently seeking talented individuals for the position of Training & Safety Specialist at our power plant facilitylocatedin Springerville, AZ. The Springerville Generating Station operates four coal-fired units with a combined generating capacity of over 1600 megawatts of power. Although we will be retiring two of the units we operate and maintain at this facility by 2032, we continue to work together to generate safe, clean, reliable power to enhance our families, customers and communities.

Position Description
Ensure compliance with all applicable local, state and federal laws, regulations and standards concerning safety and health, as well as applicable standards set forth by the ACC. Develop, coordinate and guide the implementation of safety and health processes, and programs in conjunction with the corporate safety and health staff. Assists the training group in all aspects of safety training development and presentation. Interacts with supervisors and field personnel to help guide and coordinate safety activities.
This position may provide services to affiliates of the Company subject to the UNS Energy Code of Conduct and the related Policies and Procedures.
Position-Related Responsibilities
* Provide safety and health consultation services to employees and supervisors.
* Implement policies and procedures to assure awareness of and compliance with safety and health requirements of the organization.
* Coordinate audits of health and safety programs within the organization to identify and control significant loss producing exposure.
* Keep informed on all existing and proposed changes in health and safety regulations.
* Develop and assist with basic safety and health training of employees.
* Promote communication programs to enhance and encourage employee awareness of safety and health issues.
* Serve as a technical consultant to departments in matters related to safety and health issues.
* Facilitates incident investigations, develops written reports on the events and their probable causes,
* Provides feedback to employees for safety related issues.
* Develops safety meeting material.
* Conducts Safety Risk Self-Assessment within UNS.
* Develops, recommends and implements training, production, and safety programs to improve knowledge and effectiveness of personnel.
* Coordinates departmental activities with other areas throughout Company, as required, to insure a cooperative effort on all tasks.
* Represents department and sections on various committees, as necessary, to insure that favorable associations continue. Disseminates appropriate information resulting from committee conclusions.
* Monitors literature from federal, state, and local areas that affect the utility industry.
* Assist in evaluation and purchase of safety material, tools and equipment to be used by various groups
* Assist with Fire System testing and maintenance.
* Assist with Emergency Response Team training.
* Requires the ability to obtain and maintain CIP certification.
* This is a safety sensitive position.
* Support and communicate Operational Excellence goals, objectives, vision, and values.
Management Responsibilities:
* Ensures that the Company's management principles, policies and programs are consistently practiced and continually support the Affirmative Action Plan.
* Complies with and administer the terms and conditions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
* A bachelor's degree in Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or related field, or at least four years equivalent work experience.
* Demonstrated knowledge of OSHA, MSHA, NFPA, ANSI, ACC, NESC, NEC regulations, standards and best practices.
* Demonstrated ability to present to large groups of employees
* Demonstrated ability to analyze complex incidents and assist with identification of root causes and effective solutions for unsafe conditions, procedures, processes, etc.
* Ability to conduct scene and job evaluations in all manner of terrain at all hours of the day and night.
* Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with diverse groups across functional lines. Must have high level of interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential situations. Position continually requires demonstrated poise, tact and diplomacy.
* Proficient in the use of personal computer applications, including but not limited to, Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
Safety Specialist I* Zero to three years of safety specialist experience in an electrical utility environment.
Safety Specialist II
* Oversees and assures that all activities are performed in a manner which optimizes costs and efficiencies for the organization.
* Three to five years of relevant safety experience or designation as a Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
