·      The City of Virginia Beach is hiring a Motor Equipment Operator II for our Public Works – Operations and Maintenance division.

As a Motor Equipment Operator II, your duties will include:

• Operate a dump truck in connection with the transportation of sand, stone, gravel, and supplies.
• Operate concrete truck
• Operate a light truck in carrying tools, equipment, and supplies, to and from job site.
• Operate a motor truck engaged in snow removal, and sanding of icy streets and roads.
• Operate dump truck, backhoe, and or excavator
• Able to repair, replace, and perform maintenance of catch basins, manholes, concrete, metal and plastic pipe, asphalt/ concrete pavement, and concrete curb/ gutter ensuring proper methods/techniques are utilized.
• Service and perform minor repairs on automotive equipment include, but not limited to, excavator, frontend loader, and backhoe.
• Assist in loading and unloading materials and equipment transported by truck.
• Position also requires a significant amount of work by hand when cleaning drainage structures and doing concrete repairs and forms.
• Perform other job duties requiring skills, knowledge and physical requirements as demanded by those duties described or less.
• Individual assignments will be determined by the supervisor based on then current workloads and department needs.

Must possess a Commercial Driver's License – Class A

  **Position is ALPHA I and will be required to work during all inclement weather (flooding, hurricanes & snow, etc.). **

Pre-employment physical is required.

CDL Hiring Bonus - Newly hired employees with a valid Class A or B CDL will be eligible for a $4,000 hiring bonus paid in three increments during the first year of employment: 

• $1,000 with first paycheck
• $1,000 first pay period following six-month interim eval (with “meets expectation” performance rating)
• $2,000 at conclusion of probationary period (with “meets expectation” performance rating)
