Job Overview:
We are seeking a skilled Gas Piping and Generator Technician to join our team. As our technician, you will be responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing gas piping systems for HVAC installs. Additionally you will complete gas piping for generator installs, and maintain/troubleshoot generators as needed. This position is a field job where you will travel to various sites utilizing a company supplied service truck. If you have a strong electrical/mechanical background, are a self-starter and can work independently, we'd like to hear from you!
Essential Job Functions
- Stay current with Generac Service Training Certifications.
- Understand gas appliances and standard installation practices.
- Perform field inspections of generators. Determine generator condition by conducting inspections & diagnostic tests.
- Identify and repair problems with electrical and mechanical systems. Perform load test, calculate KW for testing.
- Perform diagnostics, leak tests, and installation of gas systems.
- Complete tune-ups and/or the repairs identified during the diagnostic process.
- Communicate with the Generac Service Department as needed.
- Gas piping for HVAC and Generator installs.
- Troubleshoot & repair Generac Generators; such as engine controllers, voltage regulators, battery chargers, filters, spark plugs, valves, automatic transfer switches and more.
- Load test batteries, check and repair charging systems.
- Verify generator performance by conducting tests, adjusting controls & systems as needed.
- Maintain records with accurate documentation of service and repairs.
- Keep company tools and equipment operating by following operating instructions.
- Adhere to all safety policies and procedures.
- Other duties as assigned by Journeymen.
Competencies:
- Knowledge of Generac generators, air and liquid cooled engines, controls, and systems.
- Understand basic operation of transfer switches.
- Knowledge of mechanical & electronic HVAC needs.
- Ability to understand wiring diagrams, motors, transformers.
- Ability to identify and repair deficiencies.
- Ability to work safely around electrical components.
- Ability to qualify new and used parts for the job being performed.
- Ability to complete jobs assigned with little to no supervision.
- Excellent customer service skills which includes both verbal and written communications.
- Must work /communicate well with electricians, contractors, site managers.
- Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities/training and reading technical and regulation publications.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to write clearly and concisely.
- Basic computer skills (Google Docs/Sheets, emails, typing, etc.)
Education and Experience
- Must have a high school diploma or equivalent, age 18 or older.
- Associates Degree (AA) from a college or technical school (not a requirement but preferred).
- 1 years experience working as an HVAC apprentice or with Generac generators is preferred but not required.
- Knowledge of Air Cooled and Liquid Cooled Generators (not a requirement but preferred).
- Ability to use a variety of hand tools, power tools, and testing equipment.
License/Certification
- Maintain a valid driver's license and be insurable under the employer's insurance policy.
- Have an active WA State Electrical trainee card.
Work Environment
Frequently works in outdoor weather conditions. May be exposed to uncomfortable temperatures and/or conditions. Occasionally exposed to wet, snow, hot and humid conditions. Subject to dark confined workspaces such as crawl spaces and attics.
Physical Demands
- Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods of time.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and go up to 100 pounds with assistance.
- Ability to see, hear, talk and touch.
- Ability to use repetitive motion using various tools.
- Ability to travel by car.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced/high pressure environment.
Commute
This position will require frequent commuting. Company vehicle will be provided for work use. Must be willing and able to commute to and from required work sites.

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $20.00 - $25.00 per hour
