  • POSITION PURPOSE

    The Supervisor of Electric Operations is responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of the Company's electric construction projects. This role involves coordinating the activities of construction crews, ensuring adherence to safety regulations and project deadlines, and maintaining quality standards.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Supervises effective and efficient use of the resources responsible for construction, operation, maintenance, and repair of the Company's electric distribution system, with emphasis on safety, customer satisfaction, quality improvement, and regulatory compliance.
    • Evaluates work performance of Electric Construction and Operations' Line Technicians and provides feedback during employee performance appraisals.
    • Actively participates in and supports the department's safety program by enforcing safety rules and attending and participating in regular safety meetings.
    • Directs the work planning process including prioritizing workload, optimizing resources to meet work deadlines, securing job materials, and conducting site inspections while work is in progress.
    • Monitors environmental issues and compliance as they relate to electric operations.
    • Enforces work standards and operating procedures to ensure jobs are completed timely and in conformance with established specifications, industry regulatory requirements, safety practices, and procedures.
    • Responds, as needed, to customer inquiries, concerns, and complaints promptly using principles of good customer service.
    • Shares on-call responsibilities with other management personnel.
    • Identifies and plans system switching in conjunction with the Distribution Operations Center.
    • Coordinates Electric Construction and Operations' work activities with Engineering and Operations Scheduling for orderly transitioning of workflow between work areas.
    • Supervises contractor personnel operating on Company property.
    • Administers the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers' (IBEW) labor contract and works to resolve initial grievances. Initiates appropriate disciplinary action when required.
    • Uses KloudGin to complete and execute assigned service orders.
    • Communicates with customers, contractors, and community officials concerning all aspects of utility construction, operations, restoration, maintenance, and service delivery.
    • Provides backup supervisory coverage for Electric Operations' supervisory staff during absences or vacations.
    • Performs additional administrative duties as assigned.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Education and Experience

    • High school diploma or equivalent required.
    • Minimum of five years of experience in construction, operation, and maintenance of electric utility systems.
    • Demonstrated leadership and communication skills, with the ability to effectively manage and motivate a diverse team.

    Knowledge and Skills

    • Able to plan, coordinate, and supervise work of field operations employees for safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the Company's electric distribution system.
    • Good written and oral communications skills.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills in maintaining good working relationships with a diverse employee group.
    • Willing to work extended hours as required.
    • Sound knowledge in operating all overhead and underground distribution line equipment.
    • Working knowledge of and ability to learn construction specifications, rules, codes, laws, and regulations related to the electric industry.
    • Must exercise considerable initiative and independent judgment in resolving day-to-day operating problems.
    • Able to make good decisions in emergency conditions related to service and safety for customers and field personnel.
    • Must be customer-oriented with the ability to demonstrate diplomacy and tact in resolving customer issues.
    • Knowledge of necessary safety precautions and occupational hazards associated with operating equipment.
    • Able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with contractors, government representatives, employees, and the general public.
    • Must be able to interpret project plans, blueprints, maps, and diagrams to determine the equipment, materials, and supplies needed to complete the project.
    • Sound organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities.
    • Knowledge of principles, practices, and techniques of supervision, training, and performance management.
    • Working knowledge of and the ability to administer the IBEW labor contract.
    • Familiarity with tools, equipment, materials, and supplies needed for installing, maintaining, and repairing the electric distribution system.
    • Must maintain a valid Wisconsin driver's license.
