    Novate is currently looking for an Engineer l, Instrumentation & Controls to join our team. This individual will develop engineering designs that include product selection for all aspects of automation system design. This will include selection and proper sizing of process controllers (PAC/PLC), proper specification of I/O, network interface and switching, power supplies, circuit protection equipment, enclosures and terminal blocks. Research shall be conducted to check the feasibility and viability of engineering design. The ideal individual is capable of instrumentation selection for various processes, including power monitoring (CT/VTs), pressure, temperature, flow, level and other common process monitoring systems. The ability to develop full MEP packages is a plus.

    In this role, you will collaborate with account managers, your manager and other engineers to ascertain project scope and specifications. You will develop designs that meet project scope requirements based upon client requirement documentation and MEP documentation, selecting industrial components, automation systems, instrumentation and network equipment. All will be incorporated into a cohesive and clear engineering package. The engineering packages will clearly communicate design intent and support fabrication, installation, qualification and acceptance testing.

    Responsibilities:

    The position works under limited supervision, focusing on designing, creating and updating engineering documents including:

    • Instrumentation and Control diagrams
    • Floorplans
    • Electric ladder diagrams
    • Panel elevation views
    • Process and instrumentation diagrams (P&ID)
    • Network diagrams
    • Electrical one-line diagrams
    • Equipment Bill of Materials (BOM)
    • Project Scope Narrative
    • Sequence of Operations (SOO)
    • Project requirements

    Additional Responsibilities:

    • Develop Instrumentation & Control Design on assigned projects based upon client provided documentation and Novate best practices.
    • Complete electrical design for <600Vac/dc circuits for I&C systems (automation systems).
    • Provide engineering support to business development team for bids and proposals.
    • Provide technical direction as needed to other Novate team members.
    • Serve as a point of contact to clients and vendors as needed.
    • Generate documents consistent with all company policies and procedures to deliver superior work product.
    • Provide equipment cut sheet and O&M documentation support as required.
    • Comply with corporate policies and directives.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Required Skills and Experience:

    • Experience as an Engineer in the Industrial Automation and Controls industry.
    • Ability to work and effectively communicate with account managers.
    • Thrives under pressure and excels in a fast-paced work environment with a variety of projects.
    • Ability to create accurate professional drawings from concept sketches.
    • Proficient using AutocAD Suite, AutoCAD Electrical and associated automations.
    • Proficient with Microsoft Office.
    • Solid understanding of I&C codes and standards, including the NEC, NFPA 70E, NFPA 79, UL508/A California Electrical Code (CEC) and ISO 13849.
    • Solid understanding of common automation components, including PAC/PLC, VFD’s, Process Instrumentation, Industrial Networking, Sensor, Servo Systems (Optional).
    • Ability to type 35 WPM.

    Additional Skills that are Desirable:

    • Ability to develop full MEP packages.

    Education:

    Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited program (preferred)

    Associate Degree in an Engineering program (minimum)

    License/Certifications:

    • Valid CA driver’s license
    • California Professional Engineer (PE). (Novate will support application, training and reciprocity as required if not currently licensed).

    Physical Demands:

    • The ability to lift up to 50 pounds with occasional standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching and crawling into confined spaces.

    Travel Requirement:

    • Ability to travel frequently locally and out of state when necessary. Travel up to 15%. Remote work is encouraged.

    Work Authorization/Security Clearance:

    • Ability to pass a U.S. Federal, State and Local security level background check (U.S., DHS/FBI/DOD).
    • Must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent U.S. Resident.
