Electrical/Automation Engineer

    The position is available in any of our four Maine offices or a remote location based on the qualified applicant. We are open to candidates of all levels.

    Salary: $75,000 - $120,000

    Our offices are staffed with professionals who have significant experience providing engineering, design and analysis for civil infrastructure, electric utilities, construction and environmental permitting including transmission and distribution lines (345kV, 115kV, 69kV, 46kV, 34.5kV), associated substations and generation.

     

    Typical Duties and Responsibilities of the Remote Electrical/Automation Engineer:

    • Perform engineering services related to automation, control and communication systems
    • Develop programming and configuration for complex integration systems
    • Prepare, modify and troubleshoot HMI screen configurations
    • Design and configure operating characteristics of managed switches and LANs
    • Implement work in accordance to cyber security and critical infrastructure system requirements
    • Plan and coordinate projects with limited supervision
    • Participate in preparing proposals for associated scope
    • Manage scope, schedule, and budget for associated projects
    • Preferred ability to market and solicit work in a Seller-Doer business model

     

    Responsibility for Direction of Others of the Electrical/Automation Engineer:

    Will perform, supervise or coordinate the work associated with assigned projects. Ensures a developmental environment, providing full disclosure on project assignments and encourages others. Position includes:

    • Work estimates and the development of proposals
    • Client communication and development
    • Field work and testing support
    • Review and understand client specific standards and requirements
    • Manage project deliverables with the objective of delivering on-time and under-budget
    • Communication with department management and project team
    • Train and develop personnel
    • Supports contractual negotiations

     

    Education / Experience / Training of the Electrical/Automation Engineer:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology required
    • 10 years of applicable experience in an engineering consulting firm or related work is required
    • Demonstrated ability to apply knowledge of principles and practices to broad areas of assignment
    • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously
    • Experience with electric utility or renewable energy projects preferred but not required
    • Proficiency with GE, Siemens, ABB, SEL and/or other automation software is preferred but not required
    • Ability to interpret schematics, control logic, automation logic, and device programing is required
    • Experience with standard communication protocols, SCADA and LAN systems is preferred
    • Proficiency with microprocessor-based relay protection products and software solutions is preferred, but not required
    • Proficiency with MS Office Suite is required
    • Preferred successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering exam
    • Demonstrated experience which will ultimately result in PE licensure
    • Must successfully complete drug screening and background check, including 7-year criminal history check and Motor Vehicle Record check
    • Valid driver’s license required

    • Ability to work and communicate remotely with sufficient internet capabilities.
    • Required to travel up to 10% to other offices, client meetings or for site inspections and construction support.
    • Required to use motor coordination with finger dexterity, such as keyboarding; most of the work day;
    • Required to exert physical effort in handling objects up to 30 pounds rarely;
    • Required to exert physical effort in navigating rough native terrain, during field inspection occasionally
