Description:
The primary objective of the Electrical & Automation Engineer will be assigned project tasks to develop accurate and efficient creation of PLC, HMI programs and configuration of VFD’s, Softstarters and configurable electrical/electronic instrumentation. The Electrical & Automation Engineer will assist in the design, debugging, troubleshooting, and testing of electrical control components, instruments, PLC’s, HMI’s, and control panels for vacuum pump systems. The successful candidate will be a motivated team player with keen attention to detail and possess electrical/electronic, PLC and HMI programming history. Electrical & Automation Engineer will assist and provided feedback as assigned or requested to the Electrical & Automation Technician, Electrical Designer/Programmer I, II
and III. This role shall perform under the direct supervision of the Engineering Manager.
Essential Functions Statement:
• Generates programmable logic controller and human machine interface programs for automated vacuum control systems to meet customer needs for standard, general and custom applications.
• Generates required parameterization of VFD’s, Softstarters, Hart Transmitters and other instrumentation necessary to configure for use with automated vacuum systems
• Review and mark-up design drawings as necessary to provide feedback to designers of issues with design and need for corrective actions
• Generates sequence of operations and other engineering specification documents for automated vacuum control systems to meet customer needs for standard, general and custom applications.
• Leads and/or assist in the re-design, creation or maintenance of standard electrical designs, programs and documentation for automated vacuum control systems.
• Writes Sequence of Operations, commissioning, and initial start-up procedures for electrical installations of automated vacuum systems.
• Visits customers with the Sales team to provide technical input on sales opportunities as directed, requested, or required.
• Develops and/or assist in the review of existing Electrical Engineering guidelines and procedures to identify necessary revisions, deletions or amendments as directed, requested or required.
• Contributes to the continued increased efficiency in use of the design and programming software through an in-depth knowledge of the software.
Additional Skills & Qualifications:
Education:
• Bachelor's Degree (four-year college or technical school) Required
Experience:
• Technology or equivalent specialized experience in PLC/HMI and automation skill and knowledge: Required
• 5 plus years of experience in PLC and HMI programming and automation skill and knowledge: Required
• Working knowledge of PLC and HMI program creation, digital test instruments (i.e., multi-meters)
• Working knowledge of Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) programming, Operator Interface Terminals and similar automation control systems and components
• Familiarity with analog (4-20ma) transmitters, and adjustable pressure/vacuum switches
• Working knowledge for Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) and or Adjustment Speed Drive (ASD)
• Working knowledge reading and interpreting electrical wiring, Piping and Instrumentation Diagram/Drawing (P&ID) and associated electrical control documentation
• Knowledge of power distribution systems, automated control systems, electrical and controls instrumentation, and the National Electrical Code (UL 508A, UL 1203, NFPA 99 and NFPA 79)
Computer Skills:
• Proficient computer skills, including electronic mail, Microsoft Office Suites (routine database activity, word processing, spreadsheet, graphics, etc.). Required
• Ability to utilize AutoCAD to modify and review electrical assembly and wiring diagrams: Preferred
