    Basic Functions

    The Panel Shop Manager supports the Panel Shop business in the Automation business segment in a combination role involving sales, project management, and operations support activities depending on the needs of the business unit. The Panel Shop Manager is expected to meet with potential customers to inform them on the capabilities of the business and determine applicable projects, manage the information needs of existing customers, internal and external, and be the
    primary link between the customer and the company. The major function of this role is to ensure all panel shop projects within
    Expanse are properly managed from sales initiation through project execution. 

    The Panel Shop Manager is responsible for ensuring completion of UL508A, UL698A, Hazloc Panels and VFD Repair services while satisfying UL requirements along with establishing a safe and efficient work environment. This position equips the panel shop operational leadership team with necessary skills required to support their role requirements.

    • Represents the business unit with clients as a senior representative of Expanse.
    • Maintain client relationships and manage conflict resolution
    • Oversee project implementation and execution through completion of construction and project close out.
    • Demonstrates highly visible commitment to creating a culture with a focus on safety and quality. Attends & participates in safety meetings to demonstrate commitment.
    • Identify and address concerns regarding potential liabilities and risk.
    • Work with Warehouse Manager to facilitate implementation of inventory management processes. Monitor inventory for ongoing improvement to maximize return on investment.
    • Provide an appropriate level of on-site supervision to ensure project performance criteria are being met.
    • Periodic customer service calls to clients for verification of customer satisfaction.
    • Work with Sales team to communicate value and market opportunities.
    • Engage in cross selling efforts where possible with other Expanse business units.
    • Ensures General Manager is fully and accurately informed of all projects, internal and client issues affecting the perception of the local, national and global reputation.
    • P&L Responsibility to provide a positive cashflow result.
    • Responsible for the timeliness of Work Order entry to minimize and improve the lead time from work completion to invoice.
    • Responsible for the turnaround time of work ticket and/or invoice and final invoicing: Work with client (who has authority to sign off on work ticket and/or invoice) on the best schedule to minimize wait time.
    • Timely client resolution of disputes on work tickets or invoices and escalates to GM when necessary to avoid delay. Reviews and approves any non-bill time.
    • Implement lean engineering/manufacturing (5S) principles. Identify & facilitate implementation of new systems to stay market competitive. This may include automated machinery and new software tools.
    • Periodically review processes and develop (or oversee) new and updated process as needed.
    • Work with clients to develop a forecast of bid and awarded work planning. Creating schedules of the customer requirements and then coordinating with Operations and Estimating to finalize planning.
    • Participate in annual business review to review goals and initiatives supporting corporate objectives
    • Coordinate/Work with BDM-Panel Shop to ensures estimates and quotations are delivered in a timely manner.
    • Oversee employee training curriculum and implementation.
    • Responsible for providing/routing technical support to internal & external clients utilizing internal resources.
    • Work with Supply Chain Manager to ensure competitive position on material & equipment purchases ie: Manufacture SPA, Consumables, Shipping Material
    • Working closely with Training Manager to assess needs & facilitate creation/implementation of training plan(s).
    • Work with Recruiting & General Manager to maintain appropriate staffing levels. This includes participating in interviews & career fairs.

    Requirements

    • Able to clearly communicate with Customer and Project Engineering Team on solutions
    • Identify and correct any issues with panel shop department leads
    • Demonstrates strong knowledge of control panel design and assembly best practices
    • Demonstrates strong knowledge of Variable Frequency Drives
    • Maintain a clean and organized shop area
    • Ensures on time delivery via shipping and local will call. Identify and correct freight
      damage issues.
    • Participate in Safety culture including Stop It Drop It & Behavioral Based Safety

    • Strong interpersonal skills with an ability to interact with executive level external and internal clients as well as external team members (architects, contractors, client’s representatives, etc.). Must have the ability to develop and cultivate business relationships with existing and prospective clients. Ability to lead individuals to deliver superior results in client service.
    • In order to keep current with technology, this position monitors process improvements within the industry, contacting those companies when the situation requires.

    Qualifications

    • Graduate of a technical school with emphasis in electrical work or equivalent work experience.
    • Ability to work under minimal supervision, within broad guidelines of procedures and goals.
    • Basic knowledge of electrical theory and shop standards
    • Solid work ethic
    • Must be dependable; trustworthy; and possess a positive and productive attitude.
    • Willing and able to work a flexible schedule that includes extended hours
